Asterisks integration with pre-existing PBXs
Several people have asked about integrating asterisk in a company that currently has a PBX installed. Considering the capital outlay for most PBXs, depending on the model and age of the system, most companies do not want to look at replacement. So, what should one look at in a PBX in order to integrate asterisk into a pre-existing PBX? I have read of some systems with T1 interfaces, but what about a system that doesn't provide for that?...

Asterisk-Asterisk E1 connection
Dear, I have two Asterisk PBXs with an E1 interface/RJ-45 port in both boxes. I need to connect both PBXs with E1/R2 and UTP cable. What are the requirements to deploy the UTP cable ??? Straight-through or crossover ??? What are the pinouts in both peers ??? Thanks a lot, Alejandro

PRI, multi D channels and conventional PBXs
Hi all OK this may sound like a good one but maybe someone can tell me. Simple context is - I want to unplug my existing conventional PBX from the Telco and place * with it's TE410P in between. Now the difficult part, the existing connection is E1 PRI (Q.931) with 6 B-channels. I need to be able to trigger a D-channel to the old PBX and a D-Channel to the Telco (Not BT!). Next I can put

Multi-Tenant PBX with Asterisk
Hi I came across couple of pointers on the Internet regarding solutions available for providing hosted PBX service. 1. Multiple PBXs: Using separate hardware to host each PBX. Pretty straightforward, but no hosting company wants to use it. 2. Multi-tenant PBX: Configuring multiple PBXs within the same instance of Asterisk. I.e. partitioning a single instance of Asterisk into multiple PBXs by way of configurations, using unique l...

RE: PRI, multi D channels and conventional PBXs (brian)
Hi bkw Yep, which is going to be a huge problem since it's only taking a line and not doing any transmittal until after you get a line out, the line of course is being rejected before I can even get there :( Of course I can't even establish connectivity to the telco whilst having it peered to the PBX too due to the D channel issue :( Lee From: "brian" <brian@bkw.org>

FW: Network Magazine 04/04/04 Article pg 19 (Free IP Telephony PBXs?)
The networkmag@cmp.com appears to be broken. I dug around the magazine contacts and found Doug Allen, senior editor, you can send comments to dallen2@cmp.com . I didn't get a bounce back from that e-mail so I assume it made it to the editor. JR

Network Magazine 04/04/04 Article pg 19 (Free IP Telephony PBXs?)
* Brethren, It's a sad day in our community. Please join me in a moment of silence for the death of responsible journalism. Silence.....................good enough. This article goes on to tell about Pingtel's announcement of forming the "first open source community aimed at creating SIP based servers".

Using Asterisk to connect 2 locations with legacy PBX
...trying to find if asterisk can help me in my case. It is quite difficult to find answer because I do not know the exact question. I have two location. Each in different country. Both locations have Siemens HiPath - different type and software. I can not use card that would allow me to connect those PBXs using SIP. But I have some free ISDN and analog ports in both PBXs. Is it possible to use Asterisk on each side with some ISDN or analog card to connect to each PBX and enable users to call through the "asterisk shortcut"? The users would not dial +country code whole number, but for examp...

non blind call transfers
Hello list, I was looking for a way to implement non-blind call transfers with *, i.e. the usual behaviour of most PBXs when pressing the flash button: - A and B are talking - A pushes flash - A is free to compose a new number - B hears music on hold - A's call is answered by C - A hangs up - B and C are in conversation As much as I can understand, * only supports blind transfers, where if C does not answer t...

RAW asterisk!
I'm a network admin that maintains 3 commercial Asterisk servers for my employer. I am wanting to move away from the "pre-packaged" commercial PBXs to a more "pure" asterisk setup. The systems I have utilize a nice web GUI to make changes, but it really limits what I can do beyond what they have programmed into their GUI. Would I be better off starting with: a) Plain old asterisk from asterisk.org? (tutorial suggestions?) b) As...

911 and lawsuits
...Asterisk installers are doing anything special to protect themselves from a possible lawsuit caused by 911 failure during a Asterisk/computer crash? I realize that any traditional PBX or even a phone line can fail but, anything running on a computer is probably going to be less reliable than most PBXs. Anybody requiring customers to acknowledge and sign any kind of waiver? Just the legal fees of defending yourself in a lawsuit could sink most Asterisk installers.

T1 vs PRI
Hi, I'm buying an interface for my Toshiba DKT424 to connect to *. Initially it is a trial to route internal calls over our wan. Think of it as a tie trunk between 2 pbxs. I expect to get PRI from the telco our layout will be like this: telco_T1_PRI to * to various PBX or TDM or IAX to * to other pbxs My question is, is there benefits to connecting with PRI over a standard T1 within my local equipment? Thanks, John This e-mail was scanned and found clean by Mo...

Two * Questions
We're getting ready to ditch our hosted virtual PBX for an Asterisk solution and I've got a couple questions that probably come from experience; we're looking to host two PBXs on the same box if the PBXs are identified by different DID numbers, and I was curious if: 1. Is it possible to have duplicate extensions between the two PBXs? Eg: 555-1111x100 and 555-2222x100 on same * server 2. Is there a way to configure follow-me-calling to have an extension...

UPS for Asterisk
...9;re used to run on linux. Even though it would seem that down time on all of these production machines is bad, these are all systems that have no counter part in the legacy world, and that we all agree may have some downtime along the road. On the other hand, telephony down time is unacceptable. PBXs have a counter part. Plain old PBXs are expected to run 24x7. real 24x7, with uptimes of 99.999. And if you think about it, they actually do. So people will expect your asterisk installation to do the same. Besides, when a mail server goes down for ten minutes, when it comes back up you still get...

* Configuration
Hi, I am a beginner to Asterisk. Can anybody clear my following doubts regarding the configuration needed? 1) What is the ideal system configuratin required?(like processer, RAM, h/d space etc) 2) How many connections it can handle at a time? 3) How many Virtual PBXs it can handle? 4) Whether Postgres or Mysql is best suited? 5) How many IVR's it can handle simultaneously? 6) How many Voicemails can be recorded at a time? 7) What type of bandwidth does * require? Thanx and Regards... Girish Gopinath _______________________________________________________...

How many Asterisk PBX operating in the World?
Hi, Sorry for maybe not a very list related topic, but I have always been curious if there is information on how many Asterisk based PBXs are operating Worldwide? PRI to PRI not passing callerid
I must be doing something stupid, but I can't figure it out. I have three PRI lines connected to Asterisk, one from the phone company, and two more connected to PBXs. Asterisk uses the incoming DID information to decide which PBX to route the call to. Should be simple. Asterisk is clearly getting the caller id info from the phone company: -- Accepting call from '512345xxxx' to '039' on channel 0/3, span 3 But the PBXs upstream never see...

Custom Pickup and Transfer dial string
Hi to all, i already searched the archive without finding a solution to my problem. I have asterisk installation 1.2.18 to support multiple virtiual PBXs. I use SIP peer in the format <ID>-<EXT> to let every virtual PBX to share the same numbers of EXT. Ex. (PBX ID 10 Extensions) 10-101 10-102 10-103 (PBX ID 20 Extensions) 20-101 20-102 20-103 I use some rules in the dialplan to let users of this pbxs to dial only EXT to call othe...

Software only Asterisk PBX (commercial)
Are there any switchvox/fonality type Asterisk based PBXs where I can buy just the software? I don't want to buy their 'bundles' that come with junky PC hardware. I just want their software/GUI to run on my hardware. Does Asterisk BE come with a GUI management console for managing phones, queues, VM and the like? -Matt -- Matthew...

Looking for PRI Card with automatic fail over
...the ability to go to pass through should the Asterisk PBX (software or hardware level) fail. I did not see this feature in the Digium, Sangoma, Allo, or OpenVox cards. Does anyone know of a card that will do this? I know that Digium has an external box (the r850) that does something similar for 2 PBXs making them high availability, but in this case I only have the 1 Asterisk box acting as a gateway and passing some calls out over SIP and IAX2. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Eric -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://lists.digiu...
