When I try to use the pdbedit command I get the following
What I ultimately want to do is have samba expire and force the users to
change their passwords periodically.
I realize that it looks like I am missing a lib here but which one and
where do I get it. The company I work for is strict on

Password Policy for Samba Ldap PDC
Hello All,
I?ve a customer with a problem. They need to apply some policy's in your
Samba LDAP (SMBLDAPTOOLS) passwords, like this:
- Passwords Expiration
- Minimum lenght
- History
- Quality of Password
- Block after 3 incorrect logon attempts
Is it possible to do it with the Default Samba schema ? Is there another way
to implement ?
Thanks for any Help.
Best Regards.

user accounts
I am confused on the various account creation methods in samba. I am
running Fedora Core 8 and Samba 3.0.26a-6.

I can create a user with pdbedit -a
I can create a user with smbpasswd -a
I can list the users with the pdbedit -L command
Where is the file with the users that the above commands create and
pdbedit -L lists?

LDAP arrangement for machines
Dear Folks,
Now trying to get Samba 3.0.0 RC1 up and running only with LDAP, as PDC. I am
using openldap 2.1.22-5 from rawhide on RH9. pbedit was able to migrate the
user accounts to the existing posixAcounts in LDAP (nice!) but not the machine
accounts, which had no pre-existing entries beyond the top-level entry
ou=Devices.
Since the sambaSamAccount is auxiliary, it needs a structural objectClass to
work with. What structural objectC...

Samba + LDAP: Issue adding machine.
Greetings.
I've run into a trouble when trying to add a new Win7 machine on a domain.
The domain is controlled by a server running Samba + LDAP (samba compiled
with ldap support), on a Debian 5 OS at the local network.
I've added the machine name to the LDAP three through phpldapadmin using
the option "Samba3 Machine" on the related submenu and via terminal on
samba. Then I

Sync passwords unix/smb with FDS backend?
Using simple authentication I have been able to tie FDS to Samba 3.x.24.
Knowing that the unix passwd and smb passwd are different, dare I ask
how difficult it would be to have them sync? Most of my users are using
netatalk w/ posix user info and MD5 password. I would like to swing this
over to samba without the worries of two passwords per user. I have seen
blips on this but not directly related

problems using smbpasswd to enable/disable workstations trusted accounts
...midgard:~# pdbedit -Lv lab16$

Account Flags: [U ]

Looks like my workstation trusted account is now a new user in the
system. I never had experienced that, I thought that smbpasswd -e or -d
keys would only add or remove the D flag. With pbedit works fine, but I
need to check if there are other flags that I should maintain (and I
would create a possible race condition in my script):
root@midgard:~# smbpasswd -x lab16$
Deleted user lab16$.
root@midgard:~# smbpasswd -a -m lab16$
Added user lab16$.

sambaBadPasswordCount Problems on SAMBA 3.0.4 with LDAP Backend
...tes to the "may" field on the sambaSamAccount objectclass, but I cannot get the attribute to increment on failed login attempts on my Windows client. I have tried to lock the account by changing the attributes sambaBadPasswordCount=5 and sambaBadPasswordTime=2147483647, but when I run the pbedit command the SAMBA administrator account changes the values back to "0" and the user is allowed in. In addition, if I set the sambaBadPasswordCount=5 and sambaBadPasswordTime=2147483647 and I login successfully on the windows client; the "Last bad password" and "Bad passwor...

Problems logging windows machines
Hi all.
Need your help...
I can join the domain normally.
After restarting indicates that duplicate name exists on the network.
When I try to log in, indicates that the domain is unavailable.
I made two machines and get the message in both.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 and configured using this tutorial:

Adding to Samba domain requires super-user password
Hi,
Suddenly when I add a new workstation to out Samba3 (LDAP backend)
domain, I have to give the root username and password. When I set-up
the samba3 domain initially, I could use domain\admin user and their
password but that has started to give me "unknown user or bad
password". This last error is from a Windows7 machine I am currently
trying to add. I have merged the registry fix

NT4-Samba Migration Test Results

We previously corresponded on our testing of Samba 3.0.0 RC4. Since
then,
we have downloaded the Samba 3.0.0 Release version for testing with some
interesting results.

Major Networks: Solaris (NIS), Windows Native NT4 Domain
Our Test Plan
We are testing Samba 3.0 as a candidate for replacing the old NT4
Domain.
Being a complex production networking environment, we replicated

After migrating users to ldap, passwords still stored in passdb.tdb
I am running Samba ver 3.0.33 on Solaris 10 (sparc.) Initially I had
the server configured as a domain controller with the "passdb backend
= tdbsam" option. The underlying unix accounts were stored in LDAP
(Sun Directory Server.) Those accounts are also used for non-Samba
services.
Since I have domain trusts with NT domains, I am using winbind and
idmapping. The idmap data was

Moving a PDC
Hi list.
We're running a Debian Etch Server with Samba 3.0.24 as primary domain
controller for a XP dominated network. For various reasons, we're
migrating our server to a new machine running on Centos 5.4 (and Samba
3.0.33). Additionally, I decided to get rid of our messy LDAP setup, as
it is quite a pain to use and IMHO overkill for our small software shop
(~15 machines / users),

BDC and ldap set-up problem
Hi,
I could use some confirmation on my approach to configuring my BDC. I
want the user to be able to access shares on the BDC and have their
domain credentials stamped on any files they create. I do not want to
add domain users to the /etc/passwd file. At the moment users can
authenticate onto the domain but once they try and access a share on
the BDC, these XP users get a dialogue box asking

samba 3.4.3 DC breaks Windows groups
I have the following setup:
PDC: Samba 3.0.37 on Solaris 10
BDC1: Samba 3.0.37 on Solaris 10
BDC2: Samba 3.4.3 on Solaris 10
Samba 3.0.37 is the bundled version of Samba.
Samba 3.4.3 is compiled from source.
BDC2 is a recent addition to the network.
All machine use LDAP as the backend for everything. They use winbind to
handle a domain trust with another domain, but otherwise
