Mixing SATA & PATA Drives
I suspect it''s probably not a good idea but I was wondering if someone could clarify the details. I have 4 250G SATA(150) disks and 1 250G PATA(133) disk. Would it cause problems if I created a raidz1 pool across all 5 drives? I know the PATA drive is slower so would it slow the access across the whole pool or just when accessing that disk? Thanks for your input. - Chris

Grub, pata, and sata
I've just filed bug 0004634. Grub won't install onto my pata drive now that I have a sata drive installed. This is grub 0.97 on CentOS5.5. Has anyone else encountered this? I'm guessing that I can always install Fedora on hda, which should give me a working grub, but I was hoping for something a little less involved. Thanks, Dave Mackay

How to let wine doing a rescan of PATA devices?
I used to use a hot-plugable PATA-CDROM drive on my Computer (Samsung P35 laptop). To change drive I use a script which at the bottom of its heart uses Code: echo "scsi remove-single-device 1 0 0 0" | sudo tee /proc/scsi/scsi and Code: echo "scsi add-single-device 1 0 0 0" | sudo tee /proc/scsi/scsi comman...

CentOS v4.5 and Intel 965/G33BY chipsets - PATA support
Greetings CentOS users, I have run into a hardware issue with the Intel 965 chipset. It appears that the latest kernel doesn't support the Marvell PATA controller. I can kickstart the computer, but after the OS is installed the DVD drive can't be accessed. There are patches against 2.6.18 for the Marvell PATA controller here: http://lkml.org/lkml/2006/10/16/157 There is bug report ported for RHEL 5.0 and I assume this will apply to C...

PCI passthrough of a SATA/PATA controller, "FLR functionality not supported"
Hi there, I have a question regarding PCI passthrough on the Citrix XenServer 5.6 (Xen 3.4.2). I already managed to get some soundcard passed through to a Windows guest. So I think my knowledge about that topic isn''t _that_ low. But I cannot seem to pass through a SATA/PATA controller to a Linux guest. I have some additional CD/DVD burner (PATA) attached to a SATA/PATA controller card and I want to pass through the controller to enable the Linux guest to burn CDs - previous attempts to pass the XenServer host''s burner (/dev/xvdb) haven''t been suc...

SATA on Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 MB
Hi Gang! I've got this (now old) Gigabyte motherboard (GA-7N400 Pro2), I've had it for just over 3 years. I use it, so far, with only PATA devices. I'm toying with the idea of buying a matched pair of SATA drives and when I install Centos 5 (hopefully soon), building it with software raid (using the two drives as mirrors of each other). Now, I wouldn't have ever even thought of this question, except I've been reading rec...

Installing CentOS on RAID PATA not SATA - A8V
I'm trying to install CentOS 4 on an A8V on the PATA/Raid drives on the Promise controller. The Promise controller is recognized (sata_promise), but the PATA drives are not recognized. Base on this thread https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=147303 it seems that there is a patch which was merged in 2.6.11 to get pata working. Any...

Cannot get CentOS to install
...il with just linux mediacheck. I have tried linux ide=nodma and linux text ide=nodma after trying linux and linux text Anaconda fails on both CentOS 5.2 and RHEL 5.3 in all cases. The system I am trying to install on is running CentOS 3.x. The hardware is P4 2.8 CPU, 512 MB RAM, 120GB 3ware IDE/PATA RAID HD, ATI Video, CDRW CD, Dual Nic, Floppy and IDE/PATA Tape drive. Please provide any options to the kernel that I should try besides the ones mentioned above that fail.

question: DLL or EXE from R procedures
Hi, I wonder if it is possible to create an DLL or EXE file performing R procedures. Instead of running R, reading data and calling some procedures, I would like to use R functions in the following way: "C:\linearRegression.exe data.txt" which would produce let's say file "output.txt" with the results. Is there some way how to do it? Thanks a lot. Pavel Vanecek

SATA devices not added/probed from ICH7 sata300 controller, FreeBSD7.0, 7.1beta, 8.0 Daily
...hooked up to the SATA ports? What devices? This is why I ask: I see a Western Digital hard disk which shows up as ad0 on that system. It's claiming ATA100 mode, but there are features of the ICH7 (often called "Compatibility Mode" in BIOSes) which allow a SATA device to appear as a PATA device to work with older operating systems such as MS-DOS. I've looked at the SD30G2 user manual, and they do not appear to let you enable that mode. "Enhanced Mode" causes SATA devices to operate as SATA devices, and PATA devices to operate as PATA devices -- which in this case, i...

Boot disk order: h/w vs. grub
I'm still having conceptual trouble with this one. I have two PATA and two SATA disks in my home system. When the system comes up, these are, espectively, /dev/hda, /dev/hdb, /dev/sda and /dev/sdb. I have the boot order of the drives in the boot PROM set to boot from /dev/sda (hard drive 2), then /dev/hda (hd 0), and usually that works fine. /dev/sda is properl...

Any special option to debug kernel just freezing?
...for my g4l disk imaging project, and it works great. Have just had a user that has a new thinkpad t440p system and it load the syslinux, and he can select any of the various kernels included on the iso, but it freezes at a point with no error message just stops? Originally, the last thing ata8: PATA max PIO4 cmd 0x170 ctl 0x376 irq 15 But I built a special kernel with all the PATA stuff removed since it wasn't using any PATA devices. Just changed the last thing displayed before the freeze. Tried some failsafe kernel options that have worked in past, but same results. Just wondering if th...

Generating QFs from same sample
...b, c is unequal d, a is unequal c, b is unequal d. By slightly shuffling the same set of vectors, I generate two other similar quadratic forms, say A_{acbd} and A_{adcb}, where the indices are again as unequal as stated above. In the R-code (a part of ) below, I compute these three forms using pata, patb, patc, respectively, using kronecker products. But from the final result of this code I get the feeling there is a difference between what I want the code to do and what it actually does. en <- matrix(1, n, 1) jn <- matrix(1, n, n) dev <- jn - diag(n) pata <- dev%x%dev...

Locally attached disk is seen, 40 gig PATA in USB enclosure is not.
Hi Folks, When I boot ISOLinux, the locally attached disk is visible but the PATA 40 Gig in a USB attached enclosure is not. The locally attached disk has no bearing on what I am doing and to avoid confusion will not be mentioned again. Everything is happening on the 40 Gig. Let me explain. The goal is: Copy an installation iso to the disk, boot the disk and install it on th...

Upgrading Server Motherboard
I have a server running CentOS 4.2 that works as a web/email with very heavy load. It runs Directadmin web gui which is like Cpanel. It runs on a cheapy mATX motherboard(ECS 741GX-M) with socket A 2800+ CPU and 2Gbyte DDR. The OS and data are on a 300Gbyte PATA maxtor drive and data backups are run weekly to another PATA drive. The server is overwelmed and data backups take over 5 hours to complete. I have a Tyan(K8E) server board now that is socket 939 with SATA support. Maxtor makes a utillity that will copy there drives so I bought a second identica...

was, PATA Hard Drive woes, is "SMART"
Folks, Thanks a *lot* to those who suggested I try fsck -cc - that took six hours, and at the end, I was standing there, and it tells me that there's two back blocks, one was /dead/base.pp, and... (wait for it) bad blocks, in node 1. I said yes, fix them, and rebooted, and I don't see complaints. mark "and there was much rejoicing"

audio CD playing oddity
Hi all! This isn't anything like urgent, or ultimately even particularly important, but I find it a curious oddity and thought to in quire if any of you have thoughts on it... On my Centos 6.5 box, I have a PATA CDRW drive, and a SATA dvd drive. when playing a CD in the CDRW drive, every short while I get a sudden break in the audio while the CD is spun up. when playing the same CD in the dvd drive, I get no such phenomenon. I'm theorizing that it's one of: 1. weird PATA drive (next time I open up...
