image files or partions
Hello,
I''ve installed xen3 and asked myself whats better, image files or
partions?
I will prefer image files because of the flexible handling, but I''ve
heard that real partions are faster.
Thanks a lot for any hints?

How to replace ntfs by ntfs-3g?
Hello,
I can write to an ntfs partion if mounting it by hand with 'mount -t
ntfs-3g /dev/sdf5 /mnt/xp'. But if I use the mount option from the kde
Storage Media panel applet (kdebase-3.5.4-13.6.el5.centos) then the
partion will be mounted without write support. So how to say kde and
CentOS to use ntfs-3g and not ntfs? Maybe by...

Thanks in advance.

Best method for booting logical partions via syslinux...
Hi.
Which is the preferable method for booting multiple logical partions via syslinux ?
1. Create seperate logical (fat 32) partitons for 'each' Live CD,
extracted and prepared identically via syslinux/syslinux.cfg (sdc5,
sdc6,sdc7 etc.)
2. Use Grub2 to attempt to boot seperate logical partitions with the same extracted Live CD plan as above.
3. Use...

Disk size on share with multiple partitions
...am exporting share which has a small base partition into which several
much larger partitions are mounted. Which are used by different user groups.
My problem is, that windows takes the size of the base partition to be
the size of the whole share.
If I try to copy anything larger than the base partion into a partition
that is actually larger Windows reports insuffient disk size for the
copy operation and quits. I can copy when I use chunks under the size of
the base partition.
Is there any possibiity to overcome that problem, or do I have to make 1
large partion and use quotas.

disk partitioning: 6.0 install to harddrive using liveCD
Greetings:
I'm planning to set up a test Centos 6.0 box (has CDROM, but no
DVD) with these partions:
/ 10GB ( no separate mount for /usr )
/tmp 1GB
/var 10GB
/boot 500MB
The centos mirrors I have seen do not provide the full distro on
CD (this box has no DVD). I'm used to having about 6 CD isos to work with.
The livecd install to hard dri...

Xen and LVM
...downloaded with a nov 16 date
I download the latest 3.0 testing or unstable and I can only run one at
a time, I start one it runs, I go to start any other one ( in any random
order even ) and I can''t, get errors about my lvm already in use by
another guest.
I have 4 seperate lvm ext3 partions and 4 seperate lvm swap partions.
I back down to my saved nov 16 version and all 4 domU servers can be
started up once again.

RAID Hot Spare
I've googled this question without a great deal of information.
Monday I'm rebuilding a Linux server at work. Instead of purchasing 3
drives for this system I purchased 4 with intent to create a hot spare.
Here is my usual setup which I'll do again but with a hot spare for each
partion.
Create /dev/md0 mount point /boot RAID1 3 drives with 1 hot spare
Create two more raid setups
/dev/md1 mount point / RAID5 3 drives with 1 hot spare
/dev/md2 mount point /home RAID5 3 drives with 1 hot spare
Now do I create partions of equal size for each set then if I remember
correctly when cre...

partionning users among backends
Hi
I face growing load on a mailserver, and I would like to spread the load
on multiple machines. I made a first attempt with dsync but got burnt with
issues with mbox, therefore now I am looking for another safer approach.
Partitionning users on multiple backends would address my load problem.
I would have 50% of users on mail1.example.net and 50% on mail2.example.net,
but I need to correctly

iSCSI disk preperation
...ks
on the server. I would like to mirror the two disks and present them to
the client. Mirroring isn't the question, its how I go about it is the
problem. When I partitioned the two drives and mirrored them together,
then presented them to the client, it showed to the client as a disk out
no partion on it. Should I partition the drive again and then lay the
file system down on top of that? Or should I delete the partitions on
the target server and just have sda and sdb mirrored, then when the
client attaches the disk, then partion it (/dev/sdc1) and write the file
system.
Thanks

three (3) boxes we use as Desktops. On two (2) of them (my Dell

and CentOS5 running. :-) On my daughters box (Dell Dimension 4300)
I am having problems with the partitioning. Probably this is due to
some mistake I have made, with regard to

A data selection problem, suggestions highly appreciated
Hi, All
I get following question:
A data format like following:
[Day time x y]
Jan1 18:56:24 x1 y1
Jan1 18:56:25 x2 y2
Jan1 18:56:27 x3 y3
Jan1 18:56:28 x4 y4
Jan1 18:56:31 x5 y5
.....................
.....................
what I wanna do is to partion the time interval by unit of 5 seconds.
and pick x,y corresponding to the last time within that interval. for the
example above,
suppose 18:56:24 is the starting time, the time included in the interval
will be up to 18:56:28, therefore I want to get x4 and y4, and store them
somewhere else.
