Assistance with an encoding plugin
Hi,
I'm working on writing a FLAC encoding plugin for a personal cd ripping
project of mine which uses paranoia for the raw audio extraction. My
basic setup which follows gets me oddly high pitched audio with lots of
noise (although the music IS somewhat recognizable).
#include <FLAC/stream_encoder.h>
FLAC__StreamEncoder *encoder;
FILE *output_file_descriptor;
encoder = FLAC__stream_encoder_new();...

w/ an empty configuration file anyway .. hello?
servconf.c also kills the startup if it cant recognize an option - thus
if I make a typo (or in this case use an option from a newer sshd on an
older installation) sshd will fail.
Ok, <paranoia> It's better to refuse starting then *maybe* in an
insecure configuration mode </paranoia> .. and yes <pedantic> test your
stuff before restarting </pedantic> .. but hey, sometimes you are in a

Most of the applications under the system/administration tab of the

Sorry I don't see the reason for the paranoia.

formatting data to be analysed using multinomial logistic regression (nnet)
I am looking into using the multinomial logistic regression option in the
nnet library and have two questions about formatting the data.
1. Can data be analysed in the following format or does it need to be
transformed into count data, such as the housing data in MASS?
Id Crime paranoia hallucinate toc disorg crimhist age
1 2 1 0 1 0 1 25
2 2 0 1 1 1 1 37
3 1 1 0 1 1 0 42
4 3 0 0 0 0 1 25
5 2 1 0 1 0 0 49
2. Can a ratio variable such as $age be included into a model, such as
the one below?

Everyone's entitled to his own opinion, so I respect your right to that
view.
First, as to paranoia, how much $ is spent because of justified paranoia
in this world? ISTM that paranoia is justified by that alone. Second, I
spent too many years working with "those who know best" dev...

Proxy ARP - Pros & Cons
...the DMZ have the add''l. restriction of being private IP''s only,
therefore even less likely to sneak through the NET interface. Am I
correct that this might be a valid, even if not completely persuasive,
reason for using NAT in the DMZ instead Proxy ARP, and/or has my
architectural paranoia truly gone over the edge? :-)

Engines 1.1.2
I''ve just pushed out a new bug-fix release for the Engines plugin.
Most notably, it''s now super careful (to the point of paranoia) about
ensuring that the right version of Rails is loaded, and should no
longer cause any issues where it ignores vendor/rails. Full CHANGELOG
is here:

I'm coming in to this discussion late, so I don't know what you're doing
or how paranoid you need to be. However, cranking up the paranoia a
little, imagine the following scenario:
There's a bug in a critical boot element which means the boot relies on
uninitialised disk space. As it happens, in a normal installation this
uninitialised disk space is always safe and it's located somewhere which
will rarely, if ever, be touched...

before_save gotcha
Is it will known and accepted that before_save triggers should return
true? I didn''t notice this before but now I see it in the
documentation.
Here is what I''m doing in my model:
def before_save
if self.has_album?
self.visible = self.album.visible?
end
end
That results in the expected result when album.visible? is true - but
not when it is false. To make it

3.0.7: PANIC: deferred_open_entries_identical: logic error
After upgrading to 3.0.7 we've had 4 panics, all within seconds of each other.
Unfortunately I'm not sure what users were doing at that time. I didn't
notice this until reviewing the logs later. From the time, I would guess this
happened as people were logging in.
Here's a copy of one of the logs. The other three are identical except for the
time and PID.

Securing tinc config files
Thanks Guus.. So if someone had to gain access to my vm-disk. They would
not be able to view the contents of the files in ""etc/tinc" if I do "sudo
chmod go= /etc/tinc" .. My paranoia is around a VPS provider who had admin
access to all containers. I know that I have to create a root password that
will allow only myself root access , but im just worried about the disk
contents if it were mounted on another system.
