Maximum number of paralel connections
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I was wondering, most of the p2p programs are bandwith wasters, because they open lots of parallel connections. I have 5 queues to prioritize traffic, but these p2p open thousands of connections and my systems gets REALLY HIGH latence. Does anybody of you know by any means, for a DSL connections, the ammount of parallel connections for a good rate

Indexing paralelism
Hi Observing the processes of FTS, I observe the following: 1 - For one user, indexer-wroker does not start several threads for each request. On teh contrary, it waits for the first request to finish before starting the second. How to make sure all requests (or a limited number of it, for instance linked to the CPU number on the machine) are started asap ? 2 - If a IMAP query is received,

NLME - multilevel model using binary outcome - logistic regression
Hi! I'm pretty raw when working with the R models (linear or not). I'm wondering has anybody worked with the NLME library and dichotomous outcomes. I have a binary outcome variable that I woul like to model in a nested (multilevel) model. I started to fit a logistic model to a NLS function, but could not suceed. I know there are better ways to do it in R with either the LRM or GLM wih

I am attempting to write what MATLAB does as : [S,A]= shaperead() which returns an N by 1 geographic array structure S containing geometric information, and a paralell N by 1 attribute structure array, A containing feature attribute information. How can this be done with R code I tried using shp<-readShapePoints() but this doesnt return the same structure that I am looking for. Please

Vorbis and threads
Hi, I made an app. to encode/decode vorbis streams. My encoder is based on the libvorbis documentation, and I use ov_read for decoding. The two process is running on seperate threads (not paralell). If I use the code only encode or decode everything works fine, but when I try to encode and decode in the same code (threads) It crashes. My question is, is libvorbisenc and libvorbisfile thread

R performance: different CPUs
...Athlon, and if yes, does it justify an investment of about US $75 more for equivalent listed speeds? - Have people successfully multithreaded R computations, such as to justify a dual-core CPU? I understand R itself does not multithread, but of course it should be possible to write code that paralellizes computations and I wanted to know if anyone has experience doing so and gained large speed advantages by it. Thanks, Toby Muhlhfoer

Distribued ZFS
Hi Ged; At the moment ZFS is not a shared file system nor a paralell file system. However lustre integration which will take some time will provide parallel file system abilities. I am unsure if lustre at the moment supports redundancy between storage nodes (it was on the road map) But ZFS at the moment supports Sun cluster 3.2 (no paralel acccess is supported) and new upcoming SAS Jbods
