RAqua package installation on Panther
From the RAqua faq just uploaded to CRAN (so it will take until tomorrow to appear) Panther notes After installing Panther (MacOSX 10.3) it turns out that package installation (either from sources or from binaries) can fail. If you get an error "like" this (this comes from source package installation) dyld: gcc version mismatch for library: /usr/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib

RAqua with X11 TclTk
I've built a version of RAqua that uses X11 TclTk and NOT AquaTclTk. http://www.economia.unimi.it/R/RAquaX11.dmg (15 MB disk image) The idea is that you: launch RAqua, launch X application (the X Server), and from inside R type x11() # just tt set DISPLAY to :0.0. Eventually close this window device, we don't need this. load(tcltk) quartz() demo(tkdensity) It works on my Panther

File locking from Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther)
Dear list, My system administrator at office runs a SMB server for us all to share files at smb://server/share/ , on which we share mainly MS Office/OpenOffice.org documents. I have recently switched to iBook G4 with Panther. After the switching, I can connect to the SMB server using Panther's built in SMB capability (under Finder). But then we discover that when I open a file on

Math Symbols in plots under Darwin/Panther
I've just committed a new version of the quartz device to R-devel. This seems to fix the problem with displaying math symbols in plots under Panther. I can't not more test R under Jaguar (at least not these days). In case you have the opportunity to do that, please send me a report if it brokes everything under Jaguar (or eventually say "it's ok") A couple of test as

I jut noticed this example in the lucene documentation*: title:(+return +"pink panther") I have been using this syntax: +title:(return AND "pink panther") Seemingly with success. Are both acceptable? I couldn''t find any documentation on "the plus sign" itself. Thanks for any pointers. John

R doesn't run on g4 iBook with Panther
I have a 12" G4 iBook with the latest os (Panther) with the recent updates. When I start R by double clicking, it expands for a fraction of a second and then, nothing happens. There is mention in the readme about using something called "i-install" to uninstall a mistakenly installed library, but I do not know how to do this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Martin

Tcl/Tk on Panther
It used to be sufficient to configure R with configure --enable-R-shlib --with-tcl-config=/Library/Frameworks/Tcl.framework/tclConfig.sh --with-tk-config=/Library/Frameworks/Tk.framework/tkConfig.sh --with-blas='-framework vecLib' --with-lapack --with-aqua but for some reason this does get Tcl/Tk support build in Panther (batteries included version of Aqua Tcl/Tk, but observe

R-devel on Panther
Both the command line version and the Aqua version build/install fine on Panther B44. "Make check"runs fine as well. The configure flags are configure --enable-R-shlib --with-tcl-config=/Library/Frameworks/Tcl.framework/tclConfig.sh --with-tk-config=/Library/Frameworks/Tk.framework/tkConfig.sh --with-blas='-framework vecLib' --with-lapack --with-aqua In the environment I

RODBC, IODBC and Mac OS X
Dear All, As some of you in the archive, i am experiencing problems in using RODBC with IODBC on Mac OS X Panther. I am currrently facing two problems. The first one is apparently linked with IODBC (according to returned R error message) although testing the database access from IODBC manager seems to work fine. The second is by far more radical, R purely and simply reports an error ,

OS X 10.4.1 ( Tiger ) client borked
Appears Apple messed something up in 10.4,and 10.4.1. Attempting to connect to a 3.0.14a server (debian unstable) from an OS X client causes OS X Finder to hang, and puts these errors in the samba server logs: [2005/05/22 21:48:20, 0] rpc_parse/parse_prs.c:prs_mem_get(537) prs_mem_get: reading data of size 2 would overrun buffer. OS X Panther and Samba 3 give me no access to a 2003 share :(
I can't mount any windows 2003 share with Samba 3 included in OS X 10.3. I suppose that the problem is Kerberos but I just don't know how to correct my configuration (on win2k3 and/or OS X). Here's an example of what I get if I try to mount a share: osxcli:~ root# mount_smbfs -U testusr1 -W TESTW2K3 //main/testusr1 /mountpt mount_smbfs: No credentials cache found

R OS X panther? (PR#5529)
I have just used the RAqua.pkg to install R, and it doesn't work! I have Mac OS X 10.3, and the old version of R works OK, but the .pkg thing installed, and then when I double-click on the "StartR" application nothing happens. Nothing at all, no little icon bobbing up and down in the dock, just nothing. What have I done wrong? I didn't have to install the other packages
