OT: ps -> eps -> MS Word
...d annotations using Acrobat, I
then export the file to Adobe's .eps format so I can insert the picture
into a Microsoft Word 2000 document. The .pdf file distilled from the .ps
file is crystal clear, while the .eps file is fuzzy at any resolution in
any program (Ghostview 4/Ghostscript 7), Paintshop Pro 7, Word 2000,
Powerpoint 2000. Is there some way to keep the .eps resolution the same as
the .pdf/.ps resolution?
(I realize that LaTex is the way to go, but I'm too near completion of this
project to change the entire document. And, the journal is too Neanderthal
to accept a manuscr...

Suse 10.0 Getting WINE to work
...m not realizing that I needed to issue
the command:
winecfg
before the command:
wine install.exe
The result was the creation of the .wine directory and associated
subdirectories and drive links/mappings.
In the subdir structure, I find many directories/files from my various
attempts to install, PaintShop Pro 7,
WordPerfect 8, etc. With the exception of the PSP autorun program,
Nothing works!
I tried to clean this mess up by removing the wine directory (rm -ir .wine)
and used Yast to remove the install wine.

ps/eps/Word
...red advice on how to solve a loss of resolution
problem involving ps from R, ps -> eps from Acrobat, and Word.
It appears that this problem will need to be resolved inside R. If I try
to add anything additional (more text, clipart embellishments) to a ps/eps
file (using, say, Adobe Acrobat, PaintShop Pro, Powerpoint, or Adobe
Illustrator), it gets placed as a separate layer in the finished
file. When Adobe exports the file to .eps format it *silently* merges the
layers which ends up muddying the rectangles, ellipses, and text from the
original postscript file with text and clipart added at...

thinking seriously about converting
to dovecot from UW imap. I think I will go all the way to maildir while I'm at
it. I was having performance problems with mbox format files and converted to
mbx but it's not really yielding a huge performance gain. Deletes and moves are
still rather slow at times. my mailboxes are typically 2000 to 5000 messages.
I've scanned the mailing lists a bit and picked up some hints on

splash screen
Is the splash screen RLE is standard 640x480x4 or a modified one
because I can neither open the file in Photoshop CS2 (Windows under
ext2fsd) or Gimp 2.2 (Linux 2.6.12.16ubuntu) and I am unable to
decipher Perl scripts. Will syslinux support standard RLE?

Win2K v WINE
Hi All,
I found an old article on running WINE alongside Windows 2000
yesterday. It advocated using the command line of "wine --winver nt2k
[program name]", in the example "wine --winver nt2k mspaint.exe". I
tried this out with Paintshop Pro which WINE HQ says does run with WINE,
but had even less success than before. At least without using that extra
part I got an error saying which DLLs were missing.
I'm using Codeweavers WINE at the moment in "fake_windows" mode as that
was recommended for Win2K operations. Would...

SYSLINUX 2.03-pre4
Hi,
I have the pre4-Version installed since today morning, and it's working
fine so far.
I have some quetion about it:
How can I create a boot-Picture for the PXE-Stuff with Wi****s-Tools for
example Paintshop Pro 5.03 ??
I already tried to load one of the Examples and saving the modified Pic back
but it didn't work.
I would love to have a blue background with white letters and red Warnings
etc. I'm already using the grahpical-Mode
'cause this one offers me a bigger screen for my menu.
But...

animation?
I was wondering if anyone out there has created a series of images (e.g.
jpegs) using R, then animated them on a web page. I have looked around a
bit and it seems fairly complicated. One approach that seems sensible is
to use a java script that displays the list of images. I have only used
html on web pages before so I don't know how to use java...
Ideally the final result is easily ported to

TOO MANY ERRORS
Ok, I've tried wine with about 10 different aplications and it always
returns SOME kind of error... and it closes... the only one I can run
without ANY problem is DiabloII.... not even half life runs on wine...
Using wineX didn't solve any problem.. in fact I think it it even
harder...
Any idea why wine won't work with virtually no game at all???
thanks a lot
