Boot problem on a P4P800-based computer
Hello all,
I tried sending this message to freebsd-config and freebsd-install,
after subscribing to them, but no one answered back... so I am posting
my question here.
I just downloaded ISO images for 4.8-RELEASE, and prepared them for
installation on an brand new ASUS P4P800-based computer.
More information about this motherboard and integrated peripherals list,
can be found here:

Via 4610 RAID chipset on ASUS P4P800 under CentOS 4.1
Has anyone had any success getting this chipset's ATA RAID controller to
appear under CentOS 4.1? If so, can they break it down for me in easy to
understand steps?

motherboard to use with CentOS 3
...a P4, and have lotsa RAM, I don't need audio, I do want
to do RAID, but I'll do software RAID if hw isn't available for IDE.
the RH hardware list seems rather woefully out of date, does anyone have
any recommendations for a good motherboard guaranteed to work?
I'm looking at ASUS P4P800-E-deluxe which has a driver on the ASUS
site for the ethernet card that appears to compile on CentOS, it's a
3Com Gigabit LOM (3C940).. anyone have any reports on this?

Additions: Boot problem on a P4P800-based computer
Hi again,
Anyone has an idea how to debug this problem?
I tried nearly everything possible, including disabling devices in the
BIOS and in CLI mode. I even replaced the CD-ROM drive with another one,
just in case it is faulty. The problem persists...
The thing that is hanging the probing session comes after PLIP. That's
where the boot process always stops...
Next thing is to remove the hard

P4 Motherboard/Chipset Recomendations
...ploying a new set of servers based around Intel P4 800MHZ FSB
processors.
Currently I'm looking at the following 2 motherboards and I'm wondering how
well supported they are under -STABLE (specificaly the ATA and LAN as well as
text mode video)
Model Chipset
ASUS P4P8X Intel 865P
ASUS P4P800 Intel 865PE
Also I'm looking for recommendations on Dual Xeon boards capable of handling
533MHz FSB 2.4GHz parts.
Thanks in advance.

:: BIOS Motherboard Settings ::
I am using an ASUS P4P800 Deluxe which is a motherboard that has been tested
with Asterisk. I am unsure about the PCI slot and IRQ settings in the BIOS
and am having problems with a WCFXO card sharing with other devices. Any
suggestions on the settings required for Asterisk to avoid IRQ conflicts?
Thanks :)

The semaphore timeout period has expired
Hello Hamish.
I found your message just googling for Suse and sk98lin.
Did you solve your problem?
I had the same case and only way to restore was to change NIS driver speed
settings from AUTO to 10Mb. And it was not related to OS as the same problem
is in WXP ( I have dual boot, ASUS P4P800, integrated GB NIS ).

Booting LINUX from external USB Hard Drive
Hi,
I would like to boot a LINUX system from an external USB Hard Drive.
Motherboard (ASUS P4P800) supports boot from USB with or without floppy
emulation. Is it possible to use syslinux for booting without any floppy
or CD, just from the external USB drive?

Samba 3 OK at smbclient, Windows fails
Hi everybody,
I failed to make Samba 3.0.0 /3.0.2a working from Windows side on the
slightly different Slackware?s.
Last try was the ?current? Slackware version(kernel 2.4.25) of some
March 20?s with Samba 3.0.2a in it. Server: Asus P4P800-PIV?RAM 1.5(1)Gb-
3Com 3C940 integrated. Client(s): W2k SP3, Realtek 8139 NIC.
Installed OK (binaries from a distribution?), user added OK after
useradd to Linux. Share path is owned by that user and 'chmod a+rwx'ed.
Swat works OK except that it always insists that smbd is not running(?...

Is my card bad?
Hi,
I have a 1 port T1 card in an asus p4p800-vm board with a 2.0g Celeron, and
512m of 266mhz ram (256 on each channel). This board has video, Ethernet,
and serial ata all on-board, I got it because of that, there wouldn't be
anything else on the pci bus that would mess with the zaptel card(s).
So, here's my problem. I'm runnin...

FreeBSD and serial ata
Dear List,
This is my second post since I did not receive
any answers the first time.
I have P4P800-VM motherboard with serial ata
controlers (ICH5) and serial ata discs. I managed
to install FreeBSD 4.9-STABLE on this box when
setting the IDE controller in legacy mode.
Everything works normal except when booting,
the drives are set into UDMA33 mode:

I actually see the client display a message saying

Here's a bit more info on the config:
Bios boot sequence: floppy, NIC, HDD
Motherboard is Asus P4P800, NIC is 3Com 3c940.
OS installed on server and client is Redhat 9.
I already have a number of other machines (different

spandsp & tdm400p - recommended hardware
...doesn't seem right.
Can anyone using the TDM400P and spandsp successfully share their hardware
and OS platform? I'm not against ordering hardware, just tired of randomly
trying systems that are lying about.
I also have one of the motherboards on order recommended from the wiki - an
ASUS P4P800 Deluxe - but I'm not sure those recommended were fully tested
against the combination above.
Thanks in advance - and I'll share the results of the ASUS board as well..

...t, if you look at the manual, it will possibly be in
conflict with some USB channels. I believe I may have disabled one of them
but in any event I'm not using any USB devices. Otherwise, I didn't have to
set up any special IRQ settings.

asterisk e&m echo problem
...ancel = yes (have also tried 32, 64, 128, 256; 128 works best so far)
-echotraining = 400 (have also tried 200, 400, 800; seems to have no effect,
the wiki says the max is higher but asterisk does not like anything higher than
999ms)
-Asterisk Ver. 1.0.7 running on P4 3.0Ghz with 2Gb ram and Asus p4p800 mb
E&M takes some time for call setup, is Asterisk's echo canceller training during
this time? If so would switching to PRI alleviate the problem?
Thanks for any help you can offer,

I'm pretty sure it is the port that has problems, but I'm curious if others
have seen this too? This is an Asus P4P800 btw.

Starting From Scratch
Hello all:
For fun, I am learning about Asterisk, and trying to get Asterisk
working at my house. I installed Asterisk@Home. It seems to be
functioning fine. I installed a couple of softphones, and have them
registered with Asterisk. I actually work for a CLEC, and I have
registered my Asterisk box with SER (which I don't begin to understand
yet) at the office. In order to try to
