Noob with Overwhelming Deployment Woes...
I''m doing some searching for deployment options, and I feel like I''m getting buried in a lot of new technology and assumptions that I know all that it''s dependent on. In the past I''ve done small things with PHP where I just dump the app in a folder and everything works out of the box. I found that everyone is using Capistrano, which relies on Subversion

OT -- Inexpensive CentOS dedicated servers?
Hey all, I am looking to get some input regarding inexpensive dedicated servers -- preferably with a hosting company the offers CentOS as an OS option. Does anybody have any input or recommendations? I'd really like to support a company that uses CentOS. And there are _so many options out there, is kind of overwhelming. Thanks, Ryan

rsync seems to overwhelm a failing hard disk
Hello rsync people Today I was recovering data from a beginning-to-fail external USB hard disk. I started with my usual 'rsync -av --ignore-errors <source> <dest>', and that was fine until it got to the first I/O errors. It paused but continued after the first couple of errors, but then the disk started buzzing and rsync gave error messages for every file (I'm afraid

Cisco QoS Howto
Can anyone point me to some sample Cisco QoS configurations suitable for IAX2? I've looked through Cisco's site, and get overwhelmed with the level of documentation (too much of a good thing). My PSTN gateway and PBX (both *) are connected via 2xT1 (per-packet load balancing) between a Cisco 7206 and a 3640. When the total bandwidth pushes much past 50%, I start getting some crazy distrotion (jitter?), making it impossible fo...

colors and palettes and things...
After trying to find if there was a color picker in the FAQs and the help, I thought I would send a post here. I was overwhelmed with all the wonderful color choices R has predefined (discovered after typing in colors()) but can't figure out what they all (by name) look like. Is there a color picker or some other method to display all those colors next to the name? I think I can put together palettes, but another questi...

How to google for R stuff?
Hi! I'm new to R programming, though I've been programming in other languages for years. One thing I find most frustrating about R is how difficult it is to use Google (or any other search tool) to look for answers to my R-related questions. With languages with even slightly more distinctive names like Perl, Java, Python, Matlab, OCaml, etc., usually including the name of the language

[LLVMdev] llvm-tv
I am trying to compile llvm-tv as per the instructions from the link - http://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/television/trunk/README.txt The poolalloc doesn't seem to be in synch with the llvm svn version mentioned (78786). It is giving lot of errors during compilation. I fixed a few of them by bringing in functions/header files etc. wherever required from the mainline llvm. But this exercise

usdt probes vs pid$target
I added a couple of static probes to Firefox to measure actual work done. I could have used a pid$target probe with a function name but work is done within an if statement, which is where I placed the static probes. I''m wondering about my use, though. Is the following significantly more efficient than pid$target::FunName:entry and return? I heard somewhere that $target does not

...vide enough documentation that I can continue to update the patches and users and can download them and follow the documentation to set it up (and because classes will be taking up time I'd otherwise use to answer questions). Please try not to overwhelm me. :) -James PS. Please share thoughts about using VNC vs RDP for remote desktop connections. Please share any anecdotal information regarding user reactions and/or implementation issues.

Documentation General Comments
I realize the R developers are probably overwhelmed and have little time for this, but the documentation really needs some serious reorganizaton. A good through description of basic variable types would help a lot, e.g. the difference between lists, arrays, matrices and frames. And, it appears there is some object-orientation to R, but it is not com...

Where are the Portable Devices at vorbis.com ?
Hi Vorbis-ers, It has been a while since I have checked out the Ogg Vorbis resources. http://vorbis.com is looking great! It is a shame though that portable (and other devices) that support Ogg Vorbis well are not celebrated on the home page. I know there is an extensive list at http://wiki.xiph.org/index.php/PortablePlayers, but it is overwhelming in its completeness, and may not be immediately

Sans Periodically call remote-- possible?
I was wondering, imagine this situation. You have browser 1 on machine 1 and browser 2 on machine 2. I created a div so that I can update certain elements on the database. Is it possible to have the data rendered on browser 2 using ajax but without using the periodically call remote? Is it possible to use the submit event from browser 1 to trigger browser 2 to update? thanks, Bing --
