OT how to prevent oversubscription of a disk
I want to add up the quotas I've assigned on a particular partition and see if the total is bigger than the disk. It's possible to do this (awkwardly) using repquota or quota. Is there no more accurate/elegant way? I can't be the first person to worry that more quota has been issued than the disk can supply. mahalo and Happy New Year, Dave -- Q: Why should this email be 5 sentences or

Memory oversubscription
Hi. First of all, thanks for Xen. It''s terrific! I''m interested in doing memory oversubscription and am wondering if Xen can do this (now or in the future). For example, on a machine with 100MB available physical memory, can I: 1. Create a domain with a 90MB allocation 2. Inflate a balloon in that domain and return say 40MB back to Xen I know there are mechanisms for doing 1 and 2... 3. A...

estimation on phone network capacity
Hi I am working on deploying voip for my company and would like to seek some advice on the number of E1 lines we need to rent. Our telco told us that there can be at most 30 concurrent channels on an E1 line. Typically, what is the maximum number of DIDs that we can allocate to that E1 line before users get frequent "all lines are busy"? We are running a support center with mostly

Linux ate my RAM...
Hello everyone, Excuse the title. I'm trying to do something very specific that goes against some common assumptions. I am aware of how Linux uses available memory to cache. This, in almost all cases, is desirable. I've spent years explaining to users how to properly read the free output. I'm now trying to increase VM density on host systems (by host, I mean the physical system, not

Linux ate my RAM...
...at pages locked up by the balloon driver aren?t being used by Linux?s buffer cache. But on the other hand, the hypervisor itself fulfills some of that role, which is why rebooting a VM guest is typically much faster than rebooting the same OS on the same bare hardware. Another, of course, is that oversubscription risks running out of RAM, if all of the guests decide to try and use all the RAM the host told them it gave. All of the guests end up being forced to deflate their balloons until there is no more balloon memory left. > The increase in vm density is an acceptable tradeoff. Instead of oversubsc...

GR-303 configuration options?
...d by a colon, e.g.: ; ; crv => 1:1 ; crv => 2:1-2,5-8 so again, the first entry in a crv references the logical trunk group, correct? and the second and following entries define GR-303 CRV channels? so crv => 1:1 would reference GR-303 channel 1 on logical trunk 1? since GR-303 allows oversubscription of channels, does that mean that asterisk handles this correctly? If we had a single T1 interface going to a channel bank using GR-303, would asterisk understand: crv => 1:45 in this case if I dialed Zap span 1 channel 45, would asterisk understand this correctly in it's GR-303 impleme...

Residential services
Hi folks, The obligatory newbie disclaimer: "Hi, I'm new to Asterisk and I have a couple questions..." OK, now that that's over with: I've just started working for a small CLEC, and I'm trying to sell * to my boss as a replacement for some expensive/inflexible/closed-source software he's been using to provide residential dialtone with for a couple years now.

Homegrown Hybrid Storage
Hi, I''m looking to build a virtualized web hosting server environment accessing files on a hybrid storage SAN. I was looking at using the Sun X-Fire x4540 with the following configuration: - 6 RAID-Z vdevs with one hot spare each (all 500GB 7200RPM SATA drives) - 2 Intel X-25 32GB SSD''s as a mirrored ZIL - 4 Intel X-25 64GB SSD''s as the L2ARC. -
