Question about hardware failures / FSD
Hello,
The UPS I am developing a driver to is able to report several flags for
critical hardware conditions, like overheat, overload, inverter failure,
output short etc. What should be the correct policy of operation when such
a condition occurs? I think that the an UPS in such a condition is not
reliable and therefore a system shutdown should be called. However, the
developer's manual and

Re: [nut-Patches][303751] Checking UPS Temperature
One disadvantage of handling it through a script is that is will not
be done by default. Most users probably don't know about the problem
of burning batteries, as it is not very common.
A potential problem with Eric Wilde's patch is that it is not general
enough; some UPS models have an boolean OVERHEAT flag although they
don't report the actual temperature. So the UPSOVERTEMP

GeForce 8400 GS
Hi everyone.
I read on a 2011 article - http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=nouveau_comp_2011&num=19 - that my particular card, GeForce 8400 GS, overheats with nouveau. (So, I never tried using if for long, before, as soon as possible, installing the proprietary drivers...) But, because it's a 2-year-old article, I was wondering if that problem could have been, in the meantime, solved?... (Can anyone tell me if that is so, or not - or indicate me...

Asterisk overheating on VIA Epia M Series motherboard
Hello
I am running Asterisk on SUSE Linux Professional 9.3 on a VIA Epia M Series
motherboard - CPU runs at 1GHz. There is no fan - just a large heatsink.
Currently system is running off standard IDE hard drive - because I couldn't
get astlinux to run with my Digium TDM04B card (only PCI card in system).
Strangely I also have the same system also running SUSE Linux running as a

Adding More Variables from the CyberPower MIB
As per https://github.com/networkupstools/nut/pull/1982 I'm looking to
add a few more variables from the CyberPower SNMP MIB. At question in
particular are the values added to the ups.status variable coming from
the CPS-MIB::upsStatus.0 OID. These values are, from the MIB:
upsStatus OBJECT-TYPE

"ups.status" -> "ups.alarm"
The list of status bits we're seeing has increased over the years.
Currently for instance, the usbhid-ups driver has defined no less than 20
status bits (and I intend to add two more in the next couple of days,
FRANGE and FANFAIL):
#define STATUS_ONLINE 0x00001 /* on line */
#define STATUS_DISCHRG 0x00002 /* discharging */
#define STATUS_CHRG 0x00004 /*

Wine bottle management
I found a nice program to add bottle management to wine in Linux. It wasn't mentioned in the wiki on third party apps, so I added it. But since it wasn't already there, I guess it was not commonly known, so that why I mention it here too. Worthwhile to check out.

Server turns off unexpectedly
A few weeks back I built a new Centos 7 server from a 4 year old workstation
PC, and a brand new HDD.
This PC had no prior problems other than it ran Windows 7. Thew new HDD is
because I'm planning to also use it as a Bacula storage device.
For the moment is purely an AirPrint server, using CUPS and Avahi so is ide

My priblem is that twice now it has turned itself off,

I have had this in the past where either the CPU or PSU fan had died. I'll
check both of these next time I'm on site, but I believe the PSU is fairly
new anyway.

First thing I would do is check the temperature. In my experience,
excessive heat is the main reason for unexpected shutdown operations.
I'm using the nifty Glances utility (available in EPEL) to do basic
monitoring. If your server overheats, you'll gradually see your
temperature indicator turn from green to purple and then to red. I know
there are other utilities, but this is good for checking this sort of
stuff in real-time.
Cheers,
Niki

safety vulnerability in tablet computer
We discovered safety hardware vulnerability in Samsung tablet computer model SM-T580 16GB SN: R52M20EG5WR ? dangerous overheat of the tablet lithium-ion battery caused by short circuit to flash LED, which caused more likely by failed LED controlling hardware. We believe that similar design have other mobile computerized devices utilizing flash LED for digital camera. The computer in question has

Setup a Samba AD DC as an additional DC
Yes,
Your totaly correct, but readability get higer prio for me then not showing defaults im my setup.
Just bit easier to read and it does not harm.
This is also why my configs have the lines like this :
# Keep no in production, set yes when debugging, this slows down your samba.
Readability is also a big thing, and often forgoten/misplaced.
