Re: Folding@home Crahes Frequently
Have you overclocked your system at all? F at H puts considerable stress on your system and will often find instability in hardware/overclocking even if other stress tests passed (as was my case). I am also running a 1055T. After I truly stabilized my overclock, F at H hasn't crashed since.

kworker 100% of single core on mulit-core processor usage inquiry
Greetings everyone. I am experiencing the kworker issue where a kworker is using 100% of a given core. This behavior was only observed after having installed a new water cooler, to replace a cooler that had died. (Sealed closed loop device from Corsair) The processor is staying around 40 degrees celsius as reported by the MB UEFI interface. (ksysguard shows between 29 degrees and 30 degrees,

system slowdown
I have a CentOS 6 system that has suddenly starting significantly slowing down. It runs a django app with an Apache server and MySQL server. There is plenty of disk space and no process seems to be hogging the memory or CPU. But operations that used to take 5 minutes are now taking hours and hours. Coinciding with this slow down I see these messages in /var/log/messages (this is hand typed, as I

[Flac-users] Win2k 1.1.0 crash
Hi, I just started using FLAC and am very impressed. However I have run into a problem with the current (and other) Windows executables. If I encode with a higher compression level (say 7 or 8) I stand a high probability of BSODing or just plain rebooting. Strangely enough this behavious seems to go away if I use the default 5 compression level. Has anyone else had problems

Wine never loads (GL Library...)
Hello. Okay, I did a bit of searching around for this, and haven't found anything on it, as of yet. Before now, wine has always run perfectly (after editing the config file first of course)... but I've got a few system changes which may affect it. Anyways, first, here's the message I get: [n00bie@localhost n00bie]$ cd /mnt/windows/windows [n00bie@localhost windows]$ wine calc.exe

R performance--referred from Bioconductor listserv
Hi, all-- I wanted to start a (new) thread on R speed/benchmarking. There is a nice R benchmarking overview at http://www.sciviews.org/other/benchmark.htm, along with a free script so you can see how your machine stacks up. Looks like R is substantially faster than S-plus. My problem is this: with 512Mb and an overclocked AMD Athlon XP 1800+, running at 588 SPEC-FP 2000, it still takes me

server exercising, stressing, and/or testing
greetings would someone please point me to an excellent server exercising, stressing, and/or testing program that will run on centos 4? i want one that will not out and out destroy a machine so to speak... ...meaning testing is one thing, yet pounding a box in the hard drive department over and above the cause or unnecessarily does not appeal to me. fyi the box i want to test/stress this time

Centos 7 kworker uses 100% of single core on mulit-core processor usage inquiry
Greetings again everyone. Can someone please respond to this? I am not sure what is causing this issue, however, others seem to have experienced it in the past. Could this be caused by the processor being damaged? Nothing has changed on the system, except for the heat warning shutoff when the water cooler died, and the system was not restarted until the new one was installed. Any input

Problem with multiboxing WoW
I've been trying to open up multiple instances of WoW under Wine for a while now... I can get two copies open at once without a problem, but I run into issues when I try to open a third. Some background: I'm running each one from a separate install, not trying to open them all from the same folder. I'm using Wine 1.1.2, and the latest binary nVidia drivers (173.14.12). I've

Power burn test
I need a program that will just run everything at max so I can measure the max power used on some systems. My 'Kill a Watt' meter should show up early next week. SO run that CPU at max, using all memory, and keeping the harddrive spinning. I can jsut do pings on the lan card for it to stay awake. I have searched here and on the net and have come back with nothing.

Game is slower 2x than on Windows
Game named Istaria: Chronicles of the Gifted (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1972) ( MMO ) is slower on ANY linux and ANY wine version exactly 2 times . For example on Windows I have 40 fps and in same place 20 fps on wine, 20 fps in Windows and ~10 fps on linux. I was trying lot of "wine tricks" without any effect. I have also installed the most up

OT: OGG in the mainstream
There is a big, big difference between cbr and vbr, btw. The machine in question is a Pentium 3 700 oc'ed to 800, 512MB ram, win nt 5.1 (2k and xp being nt) etc In an earlier version the oddcast dsp ate up so much cpu time when set at say 64kbps (for examples sake) 44.1kHz, stereo that the machine became totally unusable and the winamp task had to be (slowly) ended with task manager. Now,
