Re: Folding@home Crahes Frequently
Have you overclocked your system at all? F at H puts considerable stress on your system and will often find instability in hardware/overclocking even if other stress tests passed (as was my case). I am also running a 1055T. After I truly stabilized my overclock, F at H hasn't crashed since.

kworker 100% of single core on mulit-core processor usage inquiry
...around 40 degrees celsius as reported by the MB UEFI interface. (ksysguard shows between 29 degrees and 30 degrees, when running KDE 4)
I am unable to isolate a cause, or resolution for getting the kworker usage back to normal.
Very basic description of specs are as follows:
AMD FX-8350 (not overclocked)
32GB Corsair memory (1866Mhz non-overclocked)
Sabortooth 990FX MB
I have checked the locations for interrupts which has been indicated online, however, I do not have any specific interrupts that are showing as even having a high integer value to unset.

system slowdown
I have a CentOS 6 system that has suddenly starting significantly
slowing down. It runs a django app with an Apache server and MySQL
server. There is plenty of disk space and no process seems to be
hogging the memory or CPU. But operations that used to take 5 minutes
are now taking hours and hours.
Coinciding with this slow down I see these messages in
/var/log/messages (this is hand typed, as I

I can't use the managed bitrate option in OddCast on my K6II-500 CPU!
(Overclocked to 525, WinXP Pro,192MB RAM). I would like to. Normal VBR
uses about 90% CPU. This seems too high. Perhaps some work will be
done on reducing CPU requirements and/or utilizing some CPU extensions
in the future.

[Flac-users] Win2k 1.1.0 crash
Hi,
I just started using FLAC and am very impressed. However I have
run into a problem with the current (and other) Windows
executables.
If I encode with a higher compression level (say 7 or 8) I stand a
high probability of BSODing or just plain rebooting. Strangely
enough this behavious seems to go away if I use the default 5
compression level.
Has anyone else had problems

Wine never loads (GL Library...)
...I was using 8.1 RC1
originally. When I installed it, I searched for, and found Mesa, and
installed that (which I have yet to see how much good it did.... I've
always had problems with standard Linux programs that use openGL).
Hardware-wise, I have a VooDoo 3 16meg card, 128megs ram, and an
overclocked Duron 700@803MHz (ram's also overclocked to 142MHz, not that I
think it would matter.... didn't before).
Any help is greatly appreciated... it's something that has been somewhat
lacking as far as GL help goes.... no-one seems to know, but it always
seems to work (excluding of course...

R performance--referred from Bioconductor listserv
...d to start a (new) thread on R speed/benchmarking. There is a
nice R benchmarking overview at
http://www.sciviews.org/other/benchmark.htm, along with a free script so
you can see how your machine stacks up.
Looks like R is substantially faster than S-plus.
My problem is this: with 512Mb and an overclocked AMD Athlon XP 1800+,
running at 588 SPEC-FP 2000, it still takes me 30 minutes to analyze 4Mb
.cel files x 120 files using affy (expresso). Running svm takes a
mighty long time with more than 500 genes, 150 samples.
Questions:
1) Would adding RAM or processing speed improve performance the most?...

server exercising, stressing, and/or testing
greetings
would someone please point me to an excellent server exercising, stressing,
and/or testing program that will run on centos 4?
i want one that will not out and out destroy a machine so to speak...
...meaning testing is one thing, yet pounding a box in the hard drive
department over and above the cause or unnecessarily does not appeal to me.
fyi the box i want to test/stress this time

Problem with multiboxing WoW
...ach one from a separate install, not trying to open them all from the same folder. I'm using Wine 1.1.2, and the latest binary nVidia drivers (173.14.12). I've got 2 GB of RAM and an nVidia 8800GTX with 768 MB RAM. I've got a Core2Duo E6700 (2.66ghz stock) that's phase cooled and overclocked to 3.2ghz stable, but I've brought it back down to stock values for testing. I'm running Ubuntu Hardy, 2.6.24-20-generic, and I've disabled Compiz for testing purposes.
Now then... I can open up two instances of WoW with no problems whatsoever. When I go to open the third, I end up...

Power burn test
I need a program that will just run everything at max so I can measure
the max power used on some systems. My 'Kill a Watt' meter should show
up early next week.
SO run that CPU at max, using all memory, and keeping the harddrive
spinning.
I can jsut do pings on the lan card for it to stay awake.
I have searched here and on the net and have come back with nothing.

Game is slower 2x than on Windows
Game named Istaria: Chronicles of the Gifted (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1972) ( MMO ) is slower
on ANY linux and ANY wine version exactly 2 times .
For example on Windows I have 40 fps and in same place 20 fps on wine,
20 fps in Windows and ~10 fps on linux.
I was trying lot of "wine tricks" without any effect.
I have also installed the most up

system slowdown
...time in kernel mode.
The cause can be a number of things, including overloading or a bug in
the kernel - or sometimes a hardware issue.
Are you seeing any other possibly hardware related errors in the logs?
Do you have the 'sensors' package installed and configured - is
everything OK? (An overclocked CPU or a low voltage/bad PSU can cause
this sort of thing.)
Is the system heavily loaded when you get these errors? Not just with
processes, but memory as well. (One of the hung processes is a kernel
paging process.)
