mangled filenames
...31_1,1 on FreeBSD 7.0. I have a problem where some files on the fileserver appear to have illegal characters in them and so look mangled-up when viewed over Samba. Here's an example, listing files over Samba: rococo% ls PR Archive Awards ACD76Y~N <-- Inhouse folder AOBC8G~A <-- Outhouse folder Listing the same files directly on the fileserver with ls(1), the filenames appear ok (-w in ls(1) forces raw printing of non-printable characters): baroque% ls -w PR Archive Awards Inhouse Outhouse However, doing file(1) on the same directory shows some trailing spaces in the two fo...

POP - preventing re-download with server move
Hi, Curious if anyone has any good suggestions to handle this. I try to get my hosting users to use IMAP but most use Outhouse and the IMAP support is somewhat annoying for many so I typically have them change their settings when using POP to leave copies on the server. That way when they get the inevitable virus or wanna use webmail they have a backup copy and webmail sees their saved mail. So now I have to move my sit...

Bynari Insight connector
Hi, Since IMAP support in Outlook is 'somewhat broken', and Bynari has some promising specifications on their website, I might want to try their product. Does anyone here have any experience with their software? Would you recommend it? Or maybe point me at alternatives? (If there are any.. aside from ditching Outlook of course :-P ) Regards, Maarten Bezemer

Beating the Top-Posting Dead Horse
...oting a long message in its entirety just to add "ME TOO!!!!!!!!" This got to be known as AOLing. Some old-schoolers would, as usual, just quote enough of a message that it was understood what was being replied to, and then add "/aol" rather than "Me too." Then came Outhouse, er, I mean, Outlook, with its default of top-posting. That was what the majority of *new* computer users used, and eventually became what the majority (or at least a solid plurality) used, and thus thought of as normal... brought to you by the same brilliant folks who brought you such wonders as...

Authentication Problem with dovecot-2.3.0.1
I am a little confused here. I have been running 2.2.34 which I installed in /opt/dovecot2.2 I installed 2.3.0.1 to /opt/dovecot23 I then used config files from /opt/dovecot2.2/etc/dovecot to /opt/dovecot2.3/etc/dovecot and all I did was sed -i.BAK 's/dovecot2.2/dovecot2.3/g'. Dovecot started and was running file. Next, I manually crafted config files for 2.3.0.1 based on the example

Puppet Best Practice
Hello everyone, A long time ago, I posted the Stanford Best Practices and I''ve gone through and updated it today. I''d like to have people go through it and see if we can strip out some Stanford specific stuff and tag this as an official best practice. I think an official best practice will be important as more and more people consider making shareable modules, etc (mostly
