[LLVMdev] llvm.org outage
Dear LLVMers, There is some scheduled network outages detailed below that affect the llvm.org servers and LLVM Mailing lists. The LLVM server is housed on the fourth floor. I am not sure which rooms house the mailing list servers. All times are Central Standard Time. If someone from Illinois can distill the relevant parts of this message for LLVM...

A problem with power outages
...the proper way after say 1 minute; but can this be arranged? (If the machine knew it had gone onto UPS, this could be arranged fairly simply.) There is one other possibility. There is a Billion modem/router between the ADSL input and the computer. This does not seem to have any problem with power outages. So if it were possible to send a message to the router which would cause the computer to be turned off and on again, that might offer an alternative solution. One problem with this is that the Italian ISP only offers a dynamic IP address. I run ddclient with dyndns on the server to translate this...

Shutdown the servers first, keep the network running
...* when we get down to 10 minutes, let everything else shutdown > > The goal: I can keep working from my home office - there's a separate UPS up there. I live in a town with a high ratio of trees that could fall on a line / electric meters and thus we have a fairly large number of outages, even though our power company does a great job. I will second Kelly's point that once power has been out 5 minutes it is unlikely to be back soon. I have been keeping track, and basically - There are a lot of 3-5s outages. I believe these are faults that clear themselves (squirrel st...

Hi, A little bit off topic here, but I was wondering if anybody knows about a good dedicate server provider, that offers CentOS (but ofcourse) as a os choice, and that is very reliable. I am using SuperbServer, but as of this moment 2007/03/19 1406 America/NewYork time, my server is down do to a power outage at one of their facilities in VA. This is the second outage in less that 5 months.

Power outage and now cannot connect
Hi all, We've just had a power outage and the pc's can now no longer connect to the server. The server had power backup and did not go down which seems strange. Now when I try to connect the error message in smbd.log is smbd/connection.c:yield_connection(62) yield_connection: tdb_delete failed with error Record does not exist. and on the workstation it denies access citing security

[LLVMdev] Power Outage at University of Illinois
Dear LLVMers, There was a campus wide power outage today at the University of Illinois. It took down most (if not all) computing services, including the LLVM web/subversion server and the mailing list server. Power has since been restored, and it appears that our IT department has gotten the LLVM web and SVN server operating again (I went in earlier this evening to see if the LLVM server

Maybe this will make it to the FAQ :-)
...visible interruption in service. If you purposely shut down early, you guarantee an interruption in service by bringing down the box. Although this sounds like a well considered argument it doesn't account for all situations. It's not uncommon in certain parts of the world to have power outages one after another with a say... 2 minutes in between. The power company does its best to restore power but the consumption is still too heavy so they need "a bigger hammer" :-)... I've seen it happening. In a situation like this things can get hairy. Let's assume the UPS has juice...

[fdo] Postmortem: July 17th GitLab outage
...as 'semi-planned' in that it was only announced a couple of hours in advance. It was also scheduled at one of the worst possible times: whilst all of Europe and the American east coast is active, with the west coast beginning to come online, and some of Asia still being online. Most of our outages happen early in the European morning, when we see the lightest usage from only eastern Europe and Asia being online, and only last for approximately five minutes. Background ---------------- gitlab.freedesktop.org runs on the Google Cloud Platform, using the Google Kubernetes Engine and Helm cha...
