I am not sure which rooms house the mailing list servers. All times are Central Standard Time. If someone from Illinois can distill the relevant parts of this message for LLVM...

A problem with power outages
I have a CentOS-6.2 server in Italy. Every few months the server gets into a strange state and stops working after a power outage. I should say that this does not occur after every power outage; I suspect, but have no real evidence for this, that if the power comes back too quickly then the machine gets confused because it is in the middle of closing down. If I am in Italy the solution is simple; I just press the power butto...

Dedicated Servers
...ittle bit off topic here, but I was wondering if anybody knows about a good dedicate server provider, that offers CentOS (but ofcourse) as a os choice, and that is very reliable. I am using SuperbServer, but as of this moment 2007/03/19 1406 America/NewYork time, my server is down do to a power outage at one of their facilities in VA. This is the second outage in less that 5 months. Unacceptable. But yes, any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks

[LLVMdev] LLVM Service Outages
Dear All, The Siebel Center (the building in which the llvm.org server is housed) is undergoing some significant work on its cooling system this weekend. Air conditioning will not be available, so we have been advised to shut down systems until the cooling work is done. This outage affects the following LLVM services: 1) The LLVM web server and SVN server will be unavailable starting noon (Central Daylight Time) on Saturday, June 5 and will remain down until cooling is restored. We expect to have the system back up by noon (CDT) on Monday, June 7. 2) The LLVM related ma...

Power outage and now cannot connect
Hi all, We've just had a power outage and the pc's can now no longer connect to the server. The server had power backup and did not go down which seems strange. [asterisk-biz] Skype Outage Leaves Millions Speechless
...largest in general) telco and an unregulated global online banking monopoly. And the telco suddenly went down, unexplained, for hours or days. That sounds like a serious threat to global economy and security, right? eBay is that marketplace, owns Skype, that telco, owns PayPal, that bank. This outage should be screaming from the headlines. As those three essential services become essential to more people around the world, they need to become reliable. This outage is a serious warning for future dependence on those connected services. If the media can't even report it, how can we expect anyo...

[LLVMdev] Power Outage at University of Illinois
Dear LLVMers, There was a campus wide power outage today at the University of Illinois. It took down most (if not all) computing services, including the LLVM web/subversion server and the mailing list server. Power has since been restored, and it appears that our IT department has gotten the LLVM web and SVN server operating again (I went in e...

Maybe this will make it to the FAQ :-)
...visible interruption in service. If you purposely shut down early, you guarantee an interruption in service by bringing down the box. Although this sounds like a well considered argument it doesn't account for all situations. It's not uncommon in certain parts of the world to have power outages one after another with a say... 2 minutes in between. The power company does its best to restore power but the consumption is still too heavy so they need "a bigger hammer" :-)... I've seen it happening. In a situation like this things can get hairy. Let's assume the UPS has juic...

[fdo] Postmortem: July 17th GitLab outage
Hi, On Tues Jul 17th, we had a full GitLab outage from 14:00 to 18:00 UTC, whilst attempting to upgrade the underlying storage. This was a semi-planned outage, which we'd hoped would last for approximately 30min. During the outage, the GitLab web UI and API, as well as HTTPS git clones through https://gitlab.freedesktop.org, were completely u...

Register times out on internet outage
I am using AstLinux with Asterisk CVS-HEAD-01/10/05-02:11:15-AstLinux built by root@ls on a i686 running Linux On this box I am registered to two different providers for long distance and international. If there is an internet outage of more than a few minutes, I'm not sure how long it takes to make this happen, the registration times out and when internet comes back the pbx never re-registers and consequently Asterisk has to be reset. As there is no-one there that can access the PBX it means the PBX has to be power cy...
