Cannot connect to cluster manager
Hi again, It seems that I have a problem again. When I startup the database, it has an error: ORA-29701: cannot connect to Cluster Manager. 1. I have started the the cluster manager, and ps -ef shows that watchdog and and oracm is running. 2. I've looked into the cm.log, and it seems that both nodes have registered successfully. Sure could use some help. Thanks. Warm regards, Faisal

OCFS problem with 2.4.9-e.27 (Solved?)
Hello, where do you had downloaded the ocfs-2.4.9-e-1.0.9-8.src.rpm -Package and where can I find a working combination of fw-kernel and ocfs? We are testing under SLES8 and had linux-2.4.20rc2-orafw Kernel downloaded from otn and try to compile the ocfs-sourcen also downloaded from otn. Problem is, that Suse SLES8 works with kernel 2.4.19, so we can't recompile the ocfs-sourcen for kernel 2.4.20. We try to compile this on an other workstation with Suse 8.2 and copy it to the SLES8-Workstation, we get an segmentatio...

Oracle Instant Client 11g on CentOS 5 (32-bit) workaround
I downloaded the RPMs from the Oracle web site (otn.oracle.com) and successfully installed them on my C5 box, but the sqlplus client software would not run properly. After a few iterations with sealert, I finally got a handle on what was happening. It turns out that most of the shared libraries Oracle installs need to have their SElinux file c...

ext3 data=ordered - good enough for oracle?
Given that the default journaling mode of ext3 (i.e. ordered), does not guarantee write ordering after a crash, is this journaling mode safe enough to use for a database such as Oracle? If so, how are out of sync writes delt with? Kind regards, Herta Disclaimer: http://www.kuleuven.be/cwis/email_disclaimer.htm

Using RAC
Hello, I've successfully configured RAC on Redhat AS, with external firewire + ocfs. The whole process was done without any errors and have created the database. (Thanks to Wim Coekaerts useful article). But now, how do I actually use it? If I have a client making a connection, to which node do I connect? Are there also any recommended procedures to test RAC's capabilities? Thanks.

just fyi
remember that even tho you have a filesystem etc it's always good to have seperate partitions for stuff. eg don't put all your redologs and mirrors on the same partition or don't put your archives on the same partition as data. this is not just for ocfs, but just .. common sense I think to split stuff up.

cfq vs. deadline?
I understand Oracle currently recommends using the deadline scheduler because of a bug in cfq. In reading a recent thread on nahant- list at redhat.com, using the deadline scheduler on an NFS server reduced IO wait significantly. Also, the description of the deadline scheduler sounds like it would be ideal for databases. Does Oracle have any recommendation wrt. sticking with the deadline

facter fails to recognize OEL/OVS in operatingsystemrelease.rb
For the benefit of those running OEL (Oracle Enterprise Linux) or OVS, be aware that under 2.6.0rc4 facter doesn''t properly recognize OEL in /usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/facter/operatingsystemrelease.rb. A diff for a fix is below; probably not the best fix but if you need it work now, this''ll do it for you. I''ve already filed a bug:

login reporting (utmp?) problem on Linux
I have recently compiled and installed openssh-2.1.1p1 on a linux box. The login reporting does not seem to work properly. When logging into the box via ssh (protocol 1) utmp shows the user logged in and the tty properly, but the field for the login date/time and the field for originating host contain all NULLs. Is anyone else seeing this same behavior, or have I just done something really

H(U): A few OCFS questions
OCFS Experts, Sorry if the questions below are naive, or were answered before, but here it goes. I have a potential client who at the moment having problems installing 10g RAC on RHEL 3.0 (2.4.21-20). They using (rather planning to use) OCFS for everything, including CRS files (OCR, voting). Questions: 1) They use custom kernel (modified by their security people). Do we support OCFS on the

mixed environment / why is setting up an oracle cluster on windows so hard?
hello everybody I successfully installed a *very* small two node cluster with a shared volume on linux (both debian, one x86, one ARM [laugh not: NSLU2 :)]). before that, I tried to install the "clusterware" package on my windows xp box and it constantly complained about the three different ip addresses it wanted to see, then I got so frustrated with numerous manual hosts-file

question about oracle shared home install
Hi All, Scenario: I'm trying to install 9i rac on a 2 node cluster on OCFS2 OS: Oracle enterprise linux To my understanding, OCFS2 supports shared home installs which to my knowledge is not only can i have datafile and control files but also clustermanager files and binaries (pretty much everything: no files or executables need to kept local to any nodes). I have one single shared file for

Experiences with RHN Satellite?
This is slightly off topic, and may just be tossing red meat to y''all, but here goes: My boss has RedHat coming in on Tuesday to give a spiel on RHN Satellite. I''m dubious, as it seems mostly like a web UI wrapped around a Yum repository system and a half-baked configuration management system. I''m of the opinion that our time and money would be better spent getting

zfs-discuss mailing list & opensolaris EOL
So, I hear, in a couple weeks'' time, opensolaris.org is shutting down. What does that mean for this mailing list? Should we all be moving over to something at illumos or something? I''m going to encourage somebody in an official capacity at opensolaris to respond... I''m going to discourage unofficial responses, like, illumos enthusiasts etc simply trying to get people
