Samba 2.0.3 SCO Unix 3.2v4.2 and Shadow files
Basically I've found that the 2.0.3 version of Samba is not
supporting shadowed password files on SCO Unix 3.2v4.2. It appears
to be doing it on SCO Unix OSR5 however. This shows up both in smbd
and swat.
We found this out by playing with the newest version on a SCO Unix
OSR5 box. I recompiled the software on that box for a SCO 3.2v4.2
box but was unable to get the resulting binary to work on the 3.2
box.
However, before I found this out, I played...

SCSI bad block table display
Hi All:
Is there a utility available that will allow for the dump/display of
the bad track table of a SCSI drive. We had this capability on SCO
OSR5 but I have not been able to locate anything similar for Linux.
The closest I have found is the badblocks utility that is part of the
e2fsprogs package but this appears to only test for bad blocks not
display the current bad block table contents.
I have done quite a bit of searching with Google but...

and selinux. Can someone out there currently running 4.3 send me
an "ls -l" of their root directory so I can make sure I have got
everything back as it should be?
Alternately is there some command within Linux that will fix these
up for me (we used to have something like this on SCO OSR5 but I
have not been able to locate anything for Linux)?
TIA

SCO OpenServer 5.0.6a and missing libncurses.so.4
I've downloaded Samba 2.2.6 (binaries) from SCOs Skunkware site, but
when I try and run smbclient I get a message :
dynamic linker : smbclient : error opening /usr/local/lib/libncurses.so.4

I've checked and there is no libncurses.so.4 (or
libncurses.<anything> for that matter) on the system. I've also
failed to find anything relevant in either the list archive or SCOs

centos 5.8 libvirt disk options
...r many attempts to get this working I'm up against what appears to be a
brick wall.
+ The VMware VMs are using straight 'ide' HD emulation which has been
working well for several years.
+ The 'ide' on libvirtd appears to map to SATA which isn't supported by
OSR5. I've tried doing a fresh install from CDROM, but the
installation fails to find the hard disk. I might be able to find the
appropriate BTLD for this, but that won't help migrating existing VMs.
+ When I tried using 'scsi' libvirtd says this isn't supported. Thi...

SSH Client Hangs after logging in to SSHD
I'm not a ssh expert and I don't know if the log is good or bad, but I too am
running OpenSHH under OpenServer. I find that after I connect, the return key
has no effect unless I first type:
stty sane <Ctrl>j
If you've hit <ENTER> before that you must first press <Ctrl>j a couple of times
to clean out the buffer. After I type the above command, everything

SCO OpenServer
...re access to old data by running virtual machine on
VMware. VMware works well with 5.0.7, or you can find my old notes on
Google about how to virtualize some of the older releases.
You can, in theory, try to build up the tool chain from Skunkware
published tools at ftp://ftp2.sco.com/pub/skunkware/osr5 to get a more
recent Samba version, but I don't recommend it. I went through that
for OpenSSH, and it was really non-pretty. Rather, if possible, I'd
look at using a more modern Linux or possibly OpenBSD as a Samba
server, if needed, and use any remaining OpenServer hosts only as
clients, p...

Does anyone have a working Xen to try an SCO OpenServer5.0.6 installation on?
...t VMWare ESX, which was not what I''d wanted to deal with, got selected
for use, and since it doesn''t support IDE drive emulation, I was forced
to go through the labor of installing SCSI drivers in the boot process.
There are documents on how to do this at
http://aplawrence.com/OSR5/smithosr5vmware.html.
But my only HVM capable box is being used for other purposes right now,
and I can''t spend the time with it down to test these installation
procedures with a clean Xen Dom0 installation. Is anyone out there
interested in testing this for me? It does take a license...

4.7p1 password auth broken on SCO OSR6
openssh 4.7p1
SCO OSR6
Password authentication is non-functional. This seems dependent on
USE_LIBIAF which further depends on HAVE_LIBIAF (in defines.h), but
there is no longer any code in configure to define the latter. Building
with HAVE_LIBIAF defined enables password authentication, but only for
non-long (<9 char) passwords, even though UNIXWARE_LONG_PASSWORDS seems
to be defined. I

SCO OpenServer 5.0.6a and missing libncurses.so.4 (fwd)
You can download Ncurses for SCO OpenServer via
ftp://ftp2.caldera.com/pub/skunkware/osr5/vols/ncurses-4.2-VOLS.tar
This is a tar archive of media images suitable for installation with
the SCO Software Manager (/etc/custom).

Force sendmail outbound routing for specific domain name
CentOS 4.6
Hi All:
Is it possible to force sendmail to use a specified host name for
outbound email to a selected domain name instead of the host name
that can be found by looking up the DNS entry?
The problem is that we have a client that uses the same ISP as we
do and the IP addresses assigned to both of us are very close. This
has resulted in connection problems specifically with our

Filename character translation
Hi,
I came across the problem with rsync-2.5.5 on Cygwin/Win2K while rsyncing
with filenames which have 'strange' (non latin-1) characters in filenames.
The problem is that filenames on Windows system are coded (in our case) in
codepage 852, while server (Linux system) has filename coding according to
ISO-8859-2. This two are not fully compatible, causing rsync to simply skip
copying some

animation?
I was wondering if anyone out there has created a series of images (e.g.
jpegs) using R, then animated them on a web page. I have looked around a
bit and it seems fairly complicated. One approach that seems sensible is
to use a java script that displays the list of images. I have only used
html on web pages before so I don't know how to use java...
Ideally the final result is easily ported to
