Strange Share Trouble
I am running SAMBA on Redhat Linux 7.x.
I have a share for our office as a file server. The regular Win9x client
can browse / edit / delete and use the server with no issues from the
Windows Explorer / Applications except for one.
We run AutoCAD (drafting) with an extension Cadpipe. Cadpipe has it's own
file browser style interface where you add files to a list to create a

workgroup (which includes other native local shared folders on users
PC) they received the resource not found error from Windows.
We are set-up with non-pdc shares in a normal single subnet and singe
workgroup 'OROURKE'. My logs rolled before I could dig back earlier in
the morning but this was the first sign in my smbd logs:

Issues with home shares and W2K and MS Office
Our office is running Samba 2.2.x on Red Hat 7.x
We have a mixed bag of Win98 and recent W2K clients. The new W2K clients
have no trouble connecting to the current shares including a home share:

interpretation of p values for highly correlated logistic analysis
Dear list,
I want to perform a logistic regression analysis with multiple
categorical predictors (i.e., a logit) on some data where there is a
very definite relationship between one predicator and the
response/independent variable. The problem I have is that in such a
case the p value goes very high (while I as a naive newbie would
expect it to crash towards 0).
I'll illustrate my problem

Desperate Help Required Getting SAMBA back on line
I am running SAMBA on Red Hat 7.0 and after a bad upgrade my SAMBA server is dead. I
ended up re-installing from the source and now my server is not accessible to our Win9x
clients. smbstatus show the server running but no one on the network can see the server.
I am still a bit of a newbie and I am having trouble troubleshooting this. I really am in
a jam and I need some help ASAP.

substring comparison
Hi all,
I'm writing a script to do some basic text analysis in R. Let's assume
I have a data frame named data which contains a column named 'utt'
which contains strings. Is there a straightforward way to achieve
something like this:
data$ContainsThe <- ifelse(startsWith(data$Utt,"the"),"y","n")
or
data$ContainsThe <-

Training parameters for a HMM
Hi,
I'm a newbie to the world of HMMs and HMMs in R. I've had a look at
the hmm package and the RHmm package but I couldn't see anything
straightforward on how a labelled sequential dataset with observed
values and underlying states might be used to construct and train a
HMM based on that data and no pre-computed values for the transition,
emission or initial state distributions. Does

ANOVA of a sort
Dear R Help,
I have a general question - I know this is the R list, but I hope
someone can help me out a little as I've always found the help here to
be absolutely fantastic.
I have run a psychological study where participants are given multiple
stimuli and their responses to those stimuli are measured on the same
numerical scale, i.e., the data is something like

Newbie-ish question on iteratively applying function to dataframe
Hi,
I am trying to recursively apply a function to a selection of columns
in a dataframe. I've had a look around and from what I have read, I
should be using some version of the apply function, but I'm really
having some headaches with it.
Let me be more specific with an example.
Say I have a data frame similar to the following
A x y z r1 r2 r3 r4
0.1 0.2 0.1

Practical work with logistic regression
Dear all,
I have a couple of short noob questions for whoever can take them. I'm
from a very non-stats background so sorry for offending anybody with
stupid questions ! :-)
I have been using logistic regression care of glm to analyse a binary
dependent variable against a couple of independent variables. All has
gone well so far. In my work I have to compare the accuracy of
analysis to a C4.5

[PATCH 0/8] RFC: ia64/xen TAKE 2: paravirtualization of hand written assembly code
Hi. I rewrote the patch according to the comments. I adopted generating
in-place code because it looks the quickest way.
The point Eddie wanted to discuss is how to generate code and its ABI.
i.e. in-place generating v.s. direct jump v.s. indirect function call
Indirect function call doesn't make sense because ivt.S is compiled
multi times. And it is up to pv instances to choose in-place

[PATCH 00/50] ia64/xen take 3: ia64/xen domU paravirtualization
Hi. This patchset implements xen/ia64 domU support.
Qing He and Eddie Dong also has been woring on pv_ops so that
I want to discuss before going further and avoid duplicated work.
I suppose that Eddie will also post his own patch. So reviewing both
patches, we can reach to better pv_ops interface.
- I didn't changed the ia64 intrinsic paravirtulization abi from

Mixed Design ANOVA - singular error model
Dear r-help list,
I would like to run a mixed design anova to compare the results from
one population sample to another. Here my within subject variable
(stiulusID) has 45 levels and my between subject variable (group) has
two levels. In addition to my number of levels in the within subject
variable being very large, one other 'feature' of my data is that it
is not balanced on the between
