Adding Nested Partitions To A Mount Point
...whole mess as a
single 260GB drive?
I have already tried this (with my limited knowledge) and all that seems
to happen is that the Samba identifed disk capacity size remains at the
200GB mark. The additional 60GB isn't recognized.
Would this be possible, or am I blowing smoke out my lower orifice? If
it is possible, how would I do this? Is there any documentation that
would explain something like this somewhere? What would this be called
if I were to look for it (I haven't the slightest idea how to start
searching for such a thing)?
Thanks to all in advance.

dnf replacing yum?
...me migration setup was required. Is it supposed
to work with CentOS or do we ignore it until some future release?

tar vs. star vs. something-else-I-don-t-know-about
Hello all,
today I've been sitting at work and upgrading a very-very-very old
server with RedHat Linux 6.2 installed up to CentOS 3.8. The process
went smoothly, as it is not the first time I was doing the things like
this. Just after upgrading I went to rpm -qai list and got an
interesting observation: there are at least two "tar" utilities installed
on the system.
One is tar, and

Now, not only does browsing work fine, but simple win32 apps
installed on the share work fine too. I can't help you with more
bloated apps like M$ Orifice (noun: a mouth or vent opening into
which you toss time and dollars) but there are some tips in the
samba docs.
According to the slow client stuff mentioned in the docs, some
people had to lower RWIN below 3072 for good performance (while I
had to raise it above that value). It may be somewha...

Carriage Returns in files after copying
I apologize in advance if I'm wasting bandwidth with a simple question, but
I was unable to find a solution for this problem in the documentation...
I've got a set of shares set up on a SUN Enterprise 5500 using Samba 2.0.4.
In Windows NT, I map a drive to the share. When I copy a text file from
Windows NT to the SUN, editing the file in UNIX shows that ^M has been added

1.4.0, IMAP and Dovecot
I thought I would give the new IMAP support a spin on my home
server, but without much luck so far.
Asterisk 1.4.0
Dovecot 0.99.14

The imap server is also the Asterisk server, so connections are
on the localhost.
The error posted to the logs is:

2.0, hourly performance stats
I'm getting constantly high numbers of page reclaims & involuntary
context switches for dovecot/auth.
page reclaims = minor faults = cpu switching back to system-mode, But
why is the auth process doing that so excessively? Same for the large
number of involuntary context switches...
Attached is my "dovecot -n" output.

Why Macs instead of AMD or Intel ? Just curious
My first computer was a Mac (SE30) but it was also my last so I am not
without appreciation of Apples wonderful aptitude for design. Without
starting a flame-fest why do so many ruby and rails developers use a Mac ?
It seems to be a commonality within the ruby and RoR community. Especially
laptops. The first ruby users group meeting I attended was about 50% Macs
(or so it seemed to me - I

creating script for init.d
Hello.
I'm moving from a very old Fedora Core 1 to CentOS 4.4, what a change!!
Three year ago, I wrote some script (network related) and worked very well.
Now, I can put into init.d by means of chkconfig and I restarted the system,
but always hang when executing my srcipt (in my new centos 4.4).
There a manual for making scripts for init.d?
there is some new requirement by which it does not
