Installing Oracle
This is pretty ugly.
I''m using puppet to install Oracle, ie an exec{} wrapped around:
/u01/oracle_extract/linux.x64_11gR2_database/database/runInstaller
-silent -responseFile /etc/oracle_response.rsp

Oracle instantclient on CentOS 4.4 with DBD::Oracle
Does anyone have experience on installing the Oracle instantclient and
DBD::Oracle on CentOS 4.4.
I have been having several issues with getting the RPMs from Oracle's site
working with DBD::Oracle. I can get the oracle instant client to install
without issue. But I cannot compile/install DBD::Oracle using cpan or
cpan2rpm.

CENTOS 5.5 segfault what it mean??
We have CENTOS 5.5 on DELL server and several ORACLE databases on version 10.2.0.4 and 11.1.0.7. Recently I found following messages popup on /var/log/messages:

Ivan,
I found the same thing after doing an upgrade a couple of months ago and
mailed this list. Never got a response.
We had to fdisk the shared disks and remount them and restore db from
backup.

ocfs issues with 9.2.0.3
...one out there
experiencing similar issues...
a few pointers to the issues..
1. OCFS read/write performance is way lower than a read/write to a raw
device.. i can give you some comparison numbers..
2. Writes to shared disk with ocfs would get locked up by one server..
it doesnt have to even be an oracle process.. just a file copy will
lock up the directory and the other server trying to access the same
directory in the shared disk will just hang (os process has a state
'D').... the only way to free
this up is to unmount the shared disks from the other server.. even
killing the
process whi...

hung SSH on Solaris when starting Oracle
...to involve active background jobs; it is not fixed by either the
bash fix listed in the FAQ or by zsh's "setopt HUP". I do not see
the hang-on-exit behavior with the "sleep 20 &; exit" test. The
behavior is repeatable.
Specifically:
(1) ssh to host
(2) change to Oracle admin account
(3) stop Oracle listener
(4) start Oracle listener
(5) exit from Oracle admin account
(6) exit from host (hangs)
No backgrounded processes show in a 'jobs' listing of either the
original login account or the Oracle admin account.

Partner node reboot issue
Dear Team, I came across one problem in Oracle RAC Database server with
OCFS2 file system.
When I manually un-plug the Ethernet cable of primary node, the secondary

Help with retrieving a user's environment variable
Hi,
I need to get the environment variable ORACLE_SID from the OS. I know this can be done with the following:
$blah = env("PATH")
However, the ORACLE_SID variable is only set under the oracle user account. So I would need a way to login as the oracle account first to retrieve the ORACLE_SID variable. Is there anyway to get the env...

Oracle 9i RAC on OCFS2
Hi,
I'm setting up a 2-node Oracle 9i RAC on OCFS2.
But I have some problems with understanding how the shared Oracle_Home
is being used.
For instance there is the *$ORACLE_HOME/oracm/admin/cmcfg.ora* file. The
$ORACLE_HOME is on
the SAN so the 2 nodes have access to this file. How will the settings
then be done per node?

ocfs2 <-> 10G (10.2.01) Clusterware
RHEL 4 (CENT OS)
Am I waisting my time trying to get the 10G Clusterware installer to use OCFS2 volumes for the voting and OCR disks ?
The ocfs2 setup seems happy on both nodes but the 10G installer says
the location entered for the oracle cluster registry (OCR) is not shared across all the nodes in the cluster
Do the volumes need to mounted ? I did with no change .
