Perhaps people here in Samba List, at least, half of them, are more

Is it possible to make rsync VMware split .vmdk's aware?
Hi,
I am using rsync for my customers to have disaster recovery off-site
with files from a VMware Server (under Linux). All works very well, but
when I defragment the VM's (once a week) or Exchange defragments it's
datastore the disk layout changes offcourse and sometimes a lot.
What do I do:
- I am making a local copy with vmware-vdiskmanager to an USB
disk in the split

rsync, --sparse and VM disk images
Hi Bas,
I'm not sure if this is of interest, but I also had issues with VM
disk-image sparse-files (in my case KVM, rather than VMWare), which
I've now resolved.

Asterisk BRI in the USA
Hey all,
It such a shame that BRI technology is such a flop in the USA. For a
small office such as mine it would be a great product. So her goes my
question.... What is a known asterisk working BRI card that will
operate in the USA. I need to weigh price/quality. I need to do
DID/DDI (or what ever you want to call it). Asterisk will do everything
else I need. The ILEC has at the other

...to 1GB. Should I go to the 2GB RAM? Will this combination handle all 4
spans at full load? I'm mostly intrested in realworld experiences. I
hear a lot of "don't trust because of the cheap price" but when I talk
to actual users they seem quite happy with these servers. Your opnions
please.

File Permissions. Two unix groups having write access to the same share without 0777
...I trust
it?
The only problem I could have is if an user could log into the
unix and CD around, because unix permissions would permit him to see
things that he shouldn't, right?
What this looks like to you guys? Secure enogth ? I'll have no
shell users in this machine.
any comments, opnions and sugestions would be apreciated.
thanks and sorry about the poor english. I hope I made myself clear.

MeetMe hardware dimensioning
Hi all.
What is the best hardware configuration to handle this following

DGD patch not detecting dead gateway
Hello all!
I applied http://www.ssi.bg/~ja/routes-2.6.8-10.diff patch to kernel
2.6.8.1 and it works fine, or almost fine. It does the load balancing
well, but when one link is dropped it continues to try it.
At the end of http://www.ssi.bg/~ja/nano.txt it is said to ping
gateway 1 and gateway 2, for the kernel to know if that route is
working, but since my linux is connected to the links

R v/s S-plus
Hi all,
I have Splus and R both on my unix machine. I intend to keep only one of
them. R looks to be a better choice. But I want to confirm. Is there any
function or group of functions in Splus that are absent in R?
Thanks,
Saket.

sftp client
As of Sunday evening, OpenSSH has an interactive sftp client. It should
be in the more recent snapshots.
It would be appreciated if you could test new client and find all the
bugs :) Please also have a read of the manpage and ensure that it
matches what is implemented.
I am working on fixing the ones that I know about, so please try to
stay up to date with the snapshots.
Thanks,
Damien

Xenoprof in an HVM domain
I''m looking into getting Xenoprof to tun in an HVM domain, since we will
eventually need a profiler for HVM domains to track down areas of poor
performance. (HVMs have poor performance? :) ) Being relatively new to
OProfile, Xenoprof, and Xen internals, I would appreciate any pointers,
tips, and comments on how to work the implementation. I see three basic
areas of work.
1. Implement
