Hi,

I am trying to configure a two node cluster on SLES10SP2 using user level
heartbeat. Here is my configuration.

ocfs2-tools-1.4.0-0.3
**user level heartbeat**

-> lsmod | grep ocfs
ocfs2_user_heartbeat 20992 1
ocfs2_dlmfs 37776 1
ocfs2_dlm 204456 1 ocfs2_dlmfs
ocfs2_nodemanager 223384 6 ocfs2_user_heartbeat,ocfs2_dlmfs,ocfs2_dlm
configfs 44700 3 ocfs2_user_heartbeat,ocfs2_nodemanager

mounted filesystem list contains following two lines which are required for
o2cb.
configfs on /sys/kernel/config type configfs (rw)
ocfs2_dlmfs on /dlm type ocfs2_dlmfs (rw)

/etc/ocfs2/cluster.conf file is created on one node using ocfs2console and
then propogated changes to other host.

->/etc/init.d/o2cb status
Module "configfs": Loaded
Filesystem "configfs": Mounted
Module "ocfs2_nodemanager": Loaded
Module "ocfs2_dlm": Loaded
Module "ocfs2_dlmfs": Loaded
Filesystem "ocfs2_dlmfs": Mounted
Checking O2CB cluster ocfs2: Online
Network idle timeout: 30000
Network keepalive delay: 2000
Network reconnect delay: 2000
Checking O2CB heartbeat: Not active

Everything looks fine till this point. I am able to configure and start o2cb
successfully.
Now when I try to mount a ocfs2 filesystem, it give me following error.

->mount /dev/mapper/360a980004334637558344a7863755656 /hdmnt1
ocfs2_hb_ctl: Unable to access cluster service while starting heartbeat
mount.ocfs2: Error when attempting to run /sbin/ocfs2_hb_ctl: "Operation
not
permitted"

As per my opnion, I have followed proper stepts to configure. (I had done
same with kernel level heartbeat successfully.) Is user level heartbeat
supported in sles10sp2?

Can somebody please give me some direction?

Check in /etc/ocfs2/cluster.conf the instance "number". For example,
If you
have two node:

       cluster = ocfs2

       ip_address = 10.0.0.2
       number = 1  <-----------------------------
       name = hektor

I looked at /etc/ocfs2/cluster.conf and it seems like everything is
fine. Do you think there can be any other problem?

node:
        ip_port = 7777
        ip_address = 192.168.10.1
        number = 0
        name = linux-117
        cluster = ocfs2

        ip_address = 192.168.10.2
        number = 1
        name = linux-118
        cluster = ocfs2

I'sorry. I'm a novice with the system of files OCFS2. My system's
work over
RHEL 4.6 (two nodes) and storage iSCSI (Celerra EMC). Your error was
identical to one reported in my installation. But I do not use " to user
heartbeat".  :-(

Thanks for your help. Actually I have already gone through all related
emails on mailing list but it didn't help me much.  :(

Yes, I have done entries in /etc/hosts and kernel versions are also
same. I have already successfully done configuration with kernel
heartbeat set. I am facing problem while using user heartbeat.

while doing mount, I don't get any message dmesg. Here are some
messages  that I found during restarting o2cb.
