Security on lan
Hello, I would like your opionion on how secure samba is over an network. The thing is that where i live we all have 100mbps switched network to the internet. The whole town is using this. Is it safe to use samba directly over the network with encrypted password if i have for example a server in another part of the town. I can the...

How insecure is NIS ? Possible alternatives ?
Hi, In the past I've setup simple centralized authentication with NIS and NFS, without bothering about possible security implications. Over the next month I have to setup a new network in a local school, and I wonder if I should use NIS/NFS. I still have my own documentation, it's simple and somewhat bone-headed to setup, and it just works. RHEL/CentOS 7 still provide NIS, and I vaguely

Public share ask for a password
...nk of the better boot order of services etc. I compaired my fstab settings with the systemd setttings, it was exact the same. The why im suggesting not useing fstab on jessie ( and higer ) is that, if we want it or not, systemd is coming and stretch has even more systemd. But héé, its just an opionion, everybody should have one. :-) Greetz, Louis > -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- > Van: Rowland Penny [mailto:rpenny at samba.org] > Verzonden: dinsdag 21 maart 2017 16:45 > Aan: samba at lists.samba.org > CC: L.P.H. van Belle > Onderwerp: Re: [Samba] Public share ask for a...

SIP Options
...a month Soft Phone would be easy. However, there seems to be contriversy on weather or not this is a stable solution. The BroadVoice BYOD 100 Minute package will probably work well too since almost all calls will be incoming. Otherwise I am not too sure what else sounds good. If I could get opionions and suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Thnaks, Jake Thompson

New member, new OS, old Tao user
...o Linux. Just recently, I had decided to investigate CentOS 4 before his announcement, and liked a lot of what I saw. Due to the Tao announcement, I have decided that CentOS will "have" to be the OS for my company in the future. Hence, my new membership to this list. I would like any opionions any of you may have to offer, and perhaps, some suggestions on migration to CentOS 3.7 from Tao 1 Update 6. I have usually applied updates only when needed on my current servers. Some cannot be updated due to the commercial applications being ran on them. So my first concern is the lateral mig...

Missing data augmentation
...laining about them this time. I have repeated the process several times, with subsets of my original dataset and the same problems arise each time. Standardizing, calculating the missing values, imputing them and then standardizing again does not seem the correct way to go to me however. In my opionion the correct way of doing things would be to impute the missing values and then standardize the dataset. In other words, the way that seems correct to me is not working. Any helpful comments on the problems described would be much appreciated! Thanks, Jonck

It's either NIS, simple, easy to setup yet insecure, or LDAP/FreeIPA/RH Id management server at a complexity at least one order of magnitude beyond NIS. There's also the option of using AD if such infrastructure exists. RH ID management has been comple...

Bug] Sieve vacation :addresses match only,>, case-sensitive?
...they are definitly case insensitive for the CN or UID attributes. Really nobody who cares about his systems and users uses mailboxnames which just differ in case (too much danger of confusion!) At least sieve must reflect the same settings as the MDA, so if the MDA is set to downcase (which in my opionion is the only valuable setting) sieve must also downcase. Suggestion for tagging flac w/ cuesheets
...n for tagging flac files containing cue-sheets. As discussed in "cuesheets w/ PERFORMER & TITLE track info" there is no standard for doing this yet. The developers were not willing to adopt the integrated cuesheet functionality for handling performer/artist information. I share this opionion since that would mean to sacrifice a very flexible tagging system for some static solution adopted from the CDDA world. How would it be to just use tags like "TITLE1=Light my fire", "TITLE2=Extinguish me!", "PERFORMER1=..." for cuesheet flacs? That would be very flexi...

plot.dendrogram and expressions
Hi, currently the "label" and "edgetext" attributes of a dendrogram are coerced to character before they are added to a plot with `text'. Is there a specific reason to do so (expect for the determination of the size of the character string to be plotted)? Otherwise one could plot the attributes directly via diff dendrogram.R /usr/src/R/src/library/stats/R/dendrogram.R

samba ADDC dns setup? ( this is same for any MS server )
...do think this help in the setup of the AD DC, and reduce change on errors.   So this is what i suggest, and i explain why, so yeah.. long email again, sorry about that.   The loopback address ip should be configured only as a secondary or tertiary DNS server on a domain controller. but in my opionion should be avoided in all times. I’ll address 2 things here. Resolving (orders) and ipv4/ipv6 preferences.   --------------------- In a single ADDC server setup, resolv.conf suggestions.   search ad-dc-subdom.domain.tld ( and maybe others to search.) nameserver IP_OF_DC_AND_NOT_127.0.0.1...

Yes it is a dimensioning question! Atom CPU
I am looking for pros and cons on the Intel Atom cpu. Has anybody been using these in production? I am looking at an Atom D510 (dual core 1.6GHz, 1M cache) to run maybe 25 to 30 extensions, 4 or 5 calls at once(maybe as high as 7 simultaneous calls), g729 all the way through except voicemail will be wav format for email purposes(requirement). I will be tying 3 of these together to route

Why use RID. I cant use RID.. And RID is bad in my opionion. Sure if you have one server RID, fine but multple servers, well dont use RID RID is just a cheap way to make things work. And ( in my opinion) the biggest dis-advantage of RID isnt even on the RID page. But you can find that on the backend AD page as advantage. > IDs are only cached locall...

Public share ask for a password
Hi, I am using a Samba-server (2:4.2.14+dfsg-0+deb8u2) on Debian stable. The Samba-client (samba-common ist 2:4.5.6+dfsg-1) runs on a Debian unstable. When I try to mount a Public share I am ask for a password. I don't know why. There should be no need for a password. And I can log in no matter if or which password I enter. I can I prevent the password questions? The is the IMO relevant
