element wise opertation between a vector and a list
I want to try to get a result of element wise addition between a vector and a list. It can be done with "for statement." In order to reducing computing time, I have tried to avoid "for state." If anybody give me an idea, I would apprecite it much. for example, with a & b as below lines, a<- list(c(1,3),c(1,2),c(2,3)) b<-c(10,20,30) I would like to have a list (like

Import fixed-format ascii file with mixed record types
I need to import several ascii files in fixed format with two different record types. The data comes from European Labor Force Surveys, wich is a household survey. The first record type is for people over 16 years, and the second much sorter is for people aged 15 or less (this record has a filler with several blanks to get the same record length). The files tipically have 160000 records, with 176

New C7960 won't tftp?
Just received a new Cisco 7960 (not refurb, but brand new) and it won't tftp the initial config file (OS79XX.TXT) from an FC3 box. The 7960 does get an appropriate dhcp response including the tftp address. Using a sniffer, I see the tftp request being sent from the 7960 to the FC3 box, but the FC3 box responds with error code 4 (Illegal TFTP opertion) and an error message of "Request not

Problem with yum on CentOS Linux release 7.2.1511 (Core) with 3.10.0-327.36.3.el7.x86_64 kernel
Everyone, I am at a loss on this problem would appreciate some guidance as to where to start to fix it. I noticed that my home gateway server was not being updated with the new kernel and other software, and when I ran yum it aborted with the following notices. I tried a yum clean all, but this did not fix the problem. I thought the problem may be related to one of the repos, but I have other

Do other opertions besides a "yum update" work properly? Specificly do disk operations succeed? Do you see any error messages in /var/log/messages respectively by "journalctl -b"? Regards Alexander

How to interpret the output of 'iostat -x /dev/sdb1 20 100' ??
...+ svctm) is the time span for a read request from being dispatched (by kernel driver) to being served? If so, could we use this number as a criteria for (disk + file_system) performance ? 5th question: %util is which percentage of CPU time? it looks too abstract in manual, does it means (disk I/O opertions time) divided by (%user + %nice + %sys)? Or it is (%user + %nice + %sys) divided by all the system time lots (%user + %nice + %sys +%idle)? I got lost completely here, Please help. Thanks a lot. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has t...

Hi, Trying to SSH to a server over an OPENVPN link, and it seems to be stalling , and then closing the connection. Can I do some command line magic to stop the stall, or get a password in before it closes? vjofn% ssh -v tuc at 10.2.0.2 OpenSSH_3.5p1 FreeBSD-20030924, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090704f debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config debug1: Rhosts Authentication

However, under windows explorer, anything after a . doesn't show up in the name. This is only true for a . in the middle of the name, "hidden" files such as .fvwmrc show up. WE does
