openfiler (was: using CentOS as an iSCSI server?)

Here is something I am currently lokoing at, and wondering if you'd
considered it or if anyone here has done it.
I've got a bunch of existing hardware - really good IBM stuff that is
all installed with CentOS (with a few exceptions). We want to move to
virtualization, but

Open Source NAS/NFS solution
Hi
Has anyone got any ideas on a nfs/nas appliance that i can install on
x86 hardware with a few JBOD shelves attached to it. I would like an
appliance like install and based on CentOS would be great. I really like
the look of www.openfiler.com but it seems to be only in RC release
stage so i don't think the 'boss' would like that idea.
thanks

CentOS MD RAID 1 on Openfiler iSCSI
Has anybody tried or knows if it is possible to create a MD RAID1
device using networked iSCSI devices like those created using
OpenFiler?
The idea I'm thinking of here is to use two OpenFiler servers with
physical drives in RAID 1, to create iSCSI virtual devices and run
CentOS guest VMs off the MD RAID 1 device. Since theoretically, this
setup would survive both a single physical drive

using CentOS as an iSCSI server?
Has anyone succesfully setup, and used CentOS as an iSCSI server? I'm
trying to setup a server with 4x500GB HDD's, setup in RAID 10 to act
as an iSCSI server for a virtualization project, but I can't find a
decent howto on how to setup an iSCSI server using CentOS.
I would like to setup something like Openfiler, but we also need todo
some other stuff that OpenFiler doesn't

OpenFile, ReadFile & int 13h
Hello,
I have a problem with a comboot 16 bits program for syslinux, I use the
API openFile, ReadFile and CloseFile for read my own config file. It's ok.
I use the int13h to write a floppy disk (syslinux runs on a USB stick),
after the first call to int13h, all the call to openFile return an error.
Do you know what's the problem? Is it possible to use int13h when we use
syslinux API?

Openfiler question - fiber channel?
Hey folks,
I don't seem to be able to get a response from the openfiler forums
(and they want 40 quid for the fine manual!), and since there has been
a lot of chat about it here lately, I figured I'd ask here.
Please forgive my terminology as I am just making my first baby steps
into iSCSI and Fiber Channel, and am not very well read on the
matters. So I could be using the wrong terms

Issues with iSCSI, Hosts Crashing
Two questions (and then a bonus one), kind of interrelated, but, first, some basic info. I'm using OCFS2 on OpenSUSE 10.2, kernel 2.6.18.8(-0.7). There are three nodes in the OCFS2 cluster, backed by Openfiler iSCSI storage.
First, I'm using Openfiler and iSCSI volumes to back my OCFS2 file system. The nodes that are part of the OCFS2 cluster use the file system as a shared storage

Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
Hello everyone,
I''m quite a newbie with Xen and I''m currently having an issue.
I run Xen 4 on Debian Squeeze x64 and I''m trying to build an OpenFiler DomU from the Xen domU filesystem tarbal they provide (See http://www.openfiler.com/community/download/).
I downloaded the tarball and run ''tar xzpvf /root/soft/openfiler-2.3-x86_64.tar.gz'' to extract

?? 'OpenFile failed. Distribution Media Appears to be corrupt.' ??
I'm trying to run a stock analysis app called NAIC Toolkit 4
in Wine on Fedora Core 2 Linux....
It uses InstallShield I think (it has a fancy GUI installation piece)
so I:
1. installed DCOM98
2. ran EXE file via Wine with WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ole32,oleaut32,rpcrt4=n" switch
This got rid of some errors but now I'm stuck at one last one...

Mount Openfiler created XFS volumes
Greetings,
I have a 500Gig hdd with and XFS filesystem created by openfiler (which
strangely switched from lovely CentOS for reasons best known to them). I fired
up a Centos box with this hdd. I then did
yum install kmod-xfs.i686 xfsdump.i386 dmapi xfsprogs
and it wnt through.
But when I try to mount this volume
mount -t xfs /dev/hdd1 /mnt/test
I get the error:
mount: /dev/hdd1 already

Problem with Mouting iSSCI Shared Storage using OpenFiler

I am doing a test setup of 11G RAC, and I am using Jeff Hunter's

HELP - RAC Cant fsck bad superblock
Hi All
I just installed a 2 node ,10 r2 rac on centos Linux 4.6
My rac install was done by following Jeff Hunters document (excellent work!)
http://www.idevelopment.info/
For storage I used openfiler with the iscsi protocol
http://www.openfiler.com/
everything went perfect... to the letter, I gracefully shutdown the 2
nodes , then the openfiler appliance, when I went to start it back up,

NAS -- Centos 5 DIY or Openfiler 2.0
I need to set up a NAS. Got a box with a 200Gb drive ready to go. I
have installed Openfiler 2.0 on it but.....
I really can't add other services, like FreeRadius (keep the list simple
for now).
So maybe I should just stay with what I know and use Centos.
Other experiences?
Are there good DIY NAS instructions for Centos 5?

[PATCH] common/mlstdutils: Add with_openfile function.
This safe wrapper around Unix.openfile ensures that exceptions
escaping cannot leave unclosed files.
There are only a few places in the code where this wrapper can be used
currently. There are other occurences of Unix.openfile but they are
not suitable for replacement.

sysctl maxfiles
By default FreeBSD 7.0 shipped with the sysctls set to:
kern.maxfiles: 12328
kern.maxfilesperproc: 11095
We recently bumped up against these limits in an unfortunate way and
we are going to raise them. I have some questions:
* why are the numbers set the way they are? They aren't round numbers,
they aren't powers of 2. But they were arrived at somehow with
planning and thought

[LLVMdev] [PATCH] Test failures
Hi all,
I experienced some test failures under Linux, probably caused by r232936:
In the test SanitizerCommon-Unit ::
Sanitizer-i386-Test/MemoryMappingLayout.CodeRange the temporary test
file was opened write-only, but was read from, what subsequently
failed:
Note: Google Test filter = MemoryMappingLayout.CodeRange

Storage Recommendations
Hello,
We are going to buy some NFS storage for 6-8 VMs on a single host, but
want to expand to a second host.
What storage recommendations would you give if you have between 2000
and 5000 USD?
How about nexenta? what hardware would you use? any vendor?
Experiences with openfiler and opennas?
Thanks for the responses.
Daniel
