Installing R on Ubuntu8.04; episode 3184
Thanks to everyone who has responded (esp. Michael, I greatly appreciate but also recognize that getting R on my machine is not your career). Your last response was (basically) uninstall, reboot, retry Synaptic, if no good try: judson at judson:~$ sudo wget http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/hardy/r-base-core_2.9.0-2hardy0_i386.deb I GOT --15:03:02--

File "In Use" when it's not... problem
Hi. Occasionally a problem crops up with "File already in use by another user" when it isn't !! This is usually a Lotus organiser data file which is on the RH8/Samba 2.2.7 server. I can't find a way of clearing this "Lock" except by rebooting the server... there must be a better way, any ideas ? Thanks Mike --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Scanned with

shareiscsi is cool, but what about sharefc or sharescsi?
I''d love to be able to server zvols out as SCSI or FC targets. Are there any plans to add this to ZFS? That would be amazingly awesome. -brian -- "Perl can be fast and elegant as much as J2EE can be fast and elegant. In the hands of a skilled artisan, it can and does happen; it''s just that most of the shit out there is built by people who''d be better suited to

HA Xen on 2 servers!! No NFS, special hardware, DRBD or iSCSI...

In the event of a failure I want all DomUs to fail over to the other node and start working immediately. I want absolutely no single-points-of-failure. I want to do it with free software and no special hardware. I want

RHEL-6 vs. CentOS-5.5 (was: Static assignment of SCSI device names?)
Hello list members, My adventure into udev rules has taken an interesting turn. I did discover a stupid error in the way I was attempting to assign static disk device names on CentOS-5.5, so that's out of the way. But in the process of exploring, I installed a trial copy of RHEL-6 on the new machine to see if anything had changed (since I intend this box to run CentOS-6 anyway). Lots

4.9-RC and bge
Recent SUP. Installed on Dell PowerEdge 4600. Getting tons of: Sep 30 12:23:16 zige /kernel: bge0: gigabit link up Sep 30 12:23:46 zige last message repeated 98 times Also getting some TCP retransmits. This causes noticable delays in pretty much everything I do now. Not a problem prior to the SUP. I was on 4.8-STABLE before. When pulling/replacing cables, it went into a mode where it would
