Using a Gem in your App without installing to the system
Does anyone know how to use a gem without installing it to the rails
installation? For example, I can download the Money gem package from
http://dist.leetsoft.com/ but if I don''t have the ability to install a
gem at my hosting provider, how can I use the gem in my app?

I want to use CNAMES for my SAMBA server, how?

Windows clients can successfully map drives using that fully qualified
name, However, services have a tendency to be moved or need failover
during maintenance
so I would prefer to tell customers to use a service alias like
smbserver3.rest.ofthe.domain.com. When clients use that alias, I can
see attempts at kerberos
authentication in the logs on the SAMBA server using the canonical FQDN
so Windows is getting the right address, talking to the right smbd, but
authentication fails.

I need, to chop, subset, and variously manipulate this kind of data,
sometimes keeping the data in its character format, sometimes converting
it to numeric form (i.e. substitute each data point with the equivalent
factor value). Since the data is ofthe quite big, I have to keep things
memory efficient.
This whole game is getting excedingly time consuming and frustrating,
because I end up with random pieces of code that I save, patching a
particular problem, but difficult to be 'abstracted' for a new task, so
I get back close to squar...

I _have_ to use the following software versions on CentOS4 and RHEL4

Am I being hacked?

on subnet REMOTE_BROADCAST_SUBNET - name not found.
The other IP address is 192.68.22.214
Unfortunately, the log does not have time stamps, so I don't know when
this is happening. Neither of these networks are mine (an nslookup shows
lbb.ofthe.net - a local Internet Service Provider and host214.melita.com a
company in Georgia - we are in Texas).
So, my question - what EXACTLY does this message mean? No, I don't have
ports 137 and 139 blocked, but I supposed I should...

Rsync, Perl and samba filesystem (smbfs)
My name is Chris, Hi!
I've got rsync being called from a perl script that is called by cron (or for
that matter, by hand) and when I 'rsync' a locally mounted samba filesystem
(eg. to /mnt/smbfs), it successfully syncs the smbfs to the destination
directory, but without reason hangs... and take all my cpu power...

Status of samba projects
Hello list members,
I'm slightly confused as to the status of the samba project(s), and was
wondering if someone here could give an authoritative answer to what the
situation is.
Is it correct that the current latest stable version 2.0.7 is being developed
into 2.2 by a continuation of the "original" team?

Win2k patch

the RH 7.2 just did not come with SWAT. So i tweaked
the smb.conf file in my RH 7.2 and restarted all the
deamons.
I used two linus books, one was a book called the
complete reference by Peterson from Mc Graw Hill and
another book called RH 7.2 bible, im not sure of the
name ofthe author of this book. By the way, I think
i'm using a samaba version 2.X or 2.2 something like
that.
But anyway, so i created a guest password and i
created a samba password and all and then i restarted
the snm and nmb service. The thing is, my win2k

I've been grappling with a recurring set of errors for quite some time now:
- UpdateRefs failed with NT_STATUS_IO_TIMEOUT
- Failed samba_kcc - NT_STATUS_IO_TIMEOUT
- IRPC callback failed for DsReplicaSync - NT_STATUS_IO_TIMEOUT
Despite cranking up the log level to 10, the returned information remains
frustratingly cryptic and hard to decipher.

How to change the menu depending on the controller/method?

I''m still dtarting with ruby on rails. And I''m trying to have a menu
depending on the current controller/method.
Here is what I was thinking of (please tell me if there''s a better way

I believe that the way that the Rust language is doing things is to keep a
separate fork of LLVM on github, where they put in the patches to work
around bugs that they find. Their main repository then keeps this LLVM fork
pinned on particular commits ofthe fork (using git's submodule
functionality). This has the benefit that they can easily cherry-pick
patches onto their fork whenever they want (or backport, if necessary).
They can then merge in major releases at their leisure, and I believe that
git is smart enough to recognize the cherry-picked...
