Hello list members, I'm slightly confused as to the status of the samba project(s), and was wondering if someone here could give an authoritative answer to what the situation is. Is it correct that the current latest stable version 2.0.7 is being developed into 2.2 by a continuation of the "original" team? And samba TNG is working on a different approach which will be version 3? Are there more teams at work on samba? Any target dates for releases? Thanks for any info. -- Ragnar Wisl?ff -------------- life is a reach. then you gybe. -------------------------------

Samba 2.2 was frozen from the HEAD branch several months ago. The HEAD branch will become Samba 3.0.> And samba TNG is working on a different approach which > will be version 3?http://www.samba-tng.org is a separate project now, with a separate set of developers and goals. Is this then being worked on by a different team? Does the HEAD acronym have a particular meaning?> > http://www.samba-tng.org is a separate project now, with > a separate set of developers and goals. That is understood. HEAD is the name ofthe main CVS development branch (this is a CVS term). The SAMBA Team is one group of people. SAMBA_2_2 was a snapshot of the HEAD CVS branch at a given point in time. After this there are two branches now (1) the proposed rel4ease branch, and (2) the development branch. Jeremy heads up the release branch and Andrew heads up the development branch. Fixes to one branch that are applicable are mergeed into the other branch. Most people often work on both at one time or another. make any more sense now?
