redhat-lsb
I've noticed that some systems don't have redhat-lsb or even
redhat-lsb-core installed and as a side effect, the ocsinventory agent
reports them as 'linux' instead of Centos with the release version.
Also, where it is installed and ocsinventory does pick up the name, it
doesn't include Centos (pre-7.x) in the 'all Linux' grouping because
the name is just CentOS and unlike 'Red Hat Enterprise Linux,...

Adding power devices support to OCS Inventory NG
Dear OCS fellows,
I've been thinking about working on adding power devices knowledge to OCS
for years.
Following the last Ubuntu Developer Summit, I know have an "excuse" to do
so:
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/servercloud-p-cloud-power-management
My below proposition is related to the above blueprint. So please keep in
mind that the target is also to be able to

Trouble Ticket System
Hi,
Last year, I tried to installed and evaluate the following OSS web base trouble ticketing system. This is for me to track history on our IT related issues. Those that I tried are the PHP Ticket, DanPHPSupport, Epix Power Support, ruQueue, Ticket Express, OTRS, PMOS Help Desk and eTicket. From those, PMOS and eTicket are my top picks. I have problem installing OTRS the last time, so I am

how to push the bounds and get newer packages for centos 5.4?
i've just started looking after a (virtual) centos 5.4 server that's
hosted at rackspace and, unsurprisingly, it was set up with all the
standard defaults. part of the work i'll be doing involves php and,
as i read it, the standard php version with centos 5.4 is php-5.1.
if i *wanted* to move up to a more recent version (say, php-5.3),
obviously, i'd need to go outside the

A silly question about getting access to webapp installed with yum
Greetings,
I have helped host a few applications such as GLPI, OCSInventory, etc
etc. using the tarball method and untarring them in /var/www/htom
directory.
I have never done them though using yum.
I was trying to install Trac, Bugzilla etc using yum install method on
a Centos 6.2 box.
Somehow I am not able to see the respective pages say even using

it's just for templating and generating config, not for the deployment though.

issues with 3rd party repos for centos
i'm reading the lowdown on 3rd party repos with respect to centos
here:
http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories
and i have a couple questions and observations. first, the entry for
centosplus reads:
"Popular packages from this repository include: postfix with database
support, a rebuilt kernel with additional drivers & filesystem
support, php5 and mysql5."

Other feature requests
Hello,
Great to see that my patch for new '-o' command-line option has been accepted :)
It was the most important missing feature for me.
But there are other ones I'd like to see implemented:
1. push options to clients (see push/pull options of OpenVPN)
2. automatically execute routing commands to cause all outgoing IP traffic to be redirected over the VPN (see redirect-gateway of

[CentOS-announce] Release for CentOS Linux 7 (1503 ) on x86_64
...did.

I didn't see any indication there that you were planning to turn the
/etc/redhat-release file into a symlink. And even if I had I
probably wouldn't have thought specifically that it was going to break
ocsinventory-ng, although pretty much every unnecessary and arbitrary
change breaks something.
And besides there's not much reason to think that user comments are
ever read on the -devel list. Like this one, for example:

In CentOS, /etc/redhat-release has always been a symlink to
/etc/centos-release.

Well if you define 'always' as 'for CentOS6 and later... So I guess I
have redhat-lsb installed on all of my CentOS6 boxes and hadn't
noticed that particular breakage before. To be fair, I consider it
to be a bug in OCSinventory to not follow a symlink to the contents,
but it does point out that any arbitrary change is going to break
something that trusted your previous version's functionality.

[OT?] diffs between mysql 5.0 and 5.1, and upgrading to mysql 5.1?
being used to mysql 5.1 on my fedora system, i'm suddenly looking
after a centos 5.4 box with mysql 5.0.77. before i start digging into
the mysql 5.0-5.1 changelog, do i have a lot to worry about in terms
of mentally backing up one version? or is simply upgrading the centos
box to mysql 5.1 an option? (i realize that mysql 5.1 is *not*
officially supported in centos 5.4.)

Looking for an application that simplifies tracking installed packages.
Hi,
As the number of hosts increases, it's getting harder to keep track of what packages have been installed on each host using yum or rpm.
So I am wondering if there's an existing application that helps you keep track of what packages installed on each host. Thanks.

Windows security policy
Hello everybody!!
I have a big network here with many machines with different operating
systems (Linux, Windows 9x/2000/XP and FreeBSD). Currently all of them are
authenticated by a Debian GNU/Linux server running SAMBA with LDAP. It works
perfectly but I have some problems to block some features from Windows
users.
I'm looking for some tool to control the user rights around his own station

SELinux Alert Browser - Report Bug?
When the ocsinventory-agent (from epel) runs daily to report the host
hardware and software to the central server, it triggers an selinux
alert about monitor-get-edid-using-vbe mmaping low memory. This is
reported in the GUI SELinux Alert Browser which displays a
reasonable-looking bug report. But, when I hit the '...
