flac 1.3.0pre2 pre-release
...case00a... Files case00a-expect.meta and out.meta differ > ERROR: metadata does not match expected case00a-expect.meta > make: *** [fullcheck] Error 1 Last night I did a git bisect on this issue and this error arose when I changed the version from "1.2.1" to "1.3.0pre1". Obvioulsy the test shouldn't have failed just because the version string changed :-). Bug with .First in R 2.10
...does what it should, and one of them doesn't. Confusingly, the OK one will actually trigger an error message for you, because it tries to do things that are specific to my machines. The not-OK one says "skipping .First", as below, and you'll see why it shouldn't be doing that. Obvioulsy, the files need renaming before you can test them. I haven't been able to condense the .First to something more succinct that shows the same fault; saving a modified .First frequently makes the problem go away, seemingly regardless of what the change is. The transcript from the not-OK version...

Bind acl statement issue
...ws, localhost_resolver -> localhost, internal -> localnets, and external -> !localnets; !localhost. I have a management workstation in 192.168.0.0/24 that is connecting and receiving the following debug: client 192.168.0.44#2188: no matching view in class 'IN' I don't get it? Obvioulsy if I add all to the external view, it works. How is the failing? Thanks! jlc

[Jan.Tangring@et.se: spectral band replication]
...s, who are adding its "coding enhancer" SBR (spectral band replication) to MP3 and AAC. Thomson will demo "MP3PRO" equipment this summer. Lars Liljeryd tells me that SBR is unique, and that it builds on fifteen man-years of research and development. So, unique, he says. But obvioulsy he is partial on that, cause it is his own patents he is talking about. So I would very much like to have a second opion on that, and I don't know ehere else to turn to but to this open community. Do you (or the ogg vorbis community) understand how SBR works? There is info on http://www.cod...

creating users from w2k with usrmgr and samba 3.0.1
...were related to congestions of user and program permissions. For example, it was impossible to change a user's password with the NT4 usrmgr tool from the w2k client. That always gave a "permission denied". Solution was: don't use the Debian tool "/usr/sbin/ adduser" (obvioulsy a wrapper program to the standard "useradd")! Another problem was, that Swat always wipes out variables that are written like "%u". Obviously Swat deletes everything within "". Solution: don't use Swat (too bad)! One problem is left, and I don't know if it&...

Printer Permissions Problem
I am unable to add drivers to network printer. I am logged in as a user who is allowed to write to those shares. But when ever I right click on the Properties of the printer when viewing \\DC\Printers and Faxes\PrinterName, Most of the tabs are disabled. I was able to install the drivers some time ago. But not any more. The more weird thing is that for some of the network printers, the Ports tab

faster mdct's
Hello Vorbis folks, I'm one of the FFTW authors (www.fftw.org), and a few days ago I was playing with our codelet generator for fun and modified it to spit out hard-coded MDCTs of small sizes. The code (at jdj.mit.edu/~stevenj/mdct_128nr.c) for 256 samples (128 outputs) seems to be almost twice as fast as the Vorbis MDCT code for that size on my 2.2GHz P-IV (gcc 3.2.2 and flags "-O1

xen 3.2.1 + intel quad core + 8gigs of ram + linux
Hi! Anyone have a suggestion which version of Linux would be the best host? We typically use Ubuntu but we are flexible since we want the best performance and the least amount of headaches getting it installed and working. Music on Hold
Does anybody have a good source for hold music? I can see a number of companies on the web that sell royalty-free MOH, but they don't all provide samples. The customer service desk has requested "calming, not sleeping, but calming" and "this is a high-tech company, so make it 'techie' [sic]". Thanks, --Ernest
