Shortest RFC ever: I propose we rename files using `.TXT` extension to use `.txt`
Why? Because we have a mixture scattered about the codebase, but only a very few with `.TXT`. I like consistency. It makes my obsessive tendancies happy. Is this important? Nope. Why am I asking first? Because its possible someone, somewhere will be disrupted by this so I figured I'd ask first. -Chandler -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

You are talking to the wrong person: I pretty much only use Ada not C, so I don't think I'm C obsessed. Yet I never had any pro...

/boot on a separate partition?
...t process must make sure they're mounted in that order, or there's failure. Second, there is no good reason for the EFI System partition to ever be mounted; and multiple reasons to not ever mount it (Windows and OS X never mount the EFI System partition but somehow all the Linux distros are obsessed with mounting things that don't need mounting). Eventually systemd will become smarter and handle on-demand dynamic mount and umount, including the ESP so this will get better but even better would be not ever mounting it in the first place. > I probably could get away without using the /bo...

re-coding a sizable PHP app in rails
Hello, I am the developer of a fairly major PHP app. It has the full compliment of web application goodies -- email, batch processes, cc transactions, multi-level authentication, security, content management, curl-type interaction with other applications, etc. I am obsessed with the idea of re-doing a year and a half of work in Rails and the more I learn the worse my itch gets. I feel like I will be able to make much faster forward progress on features once this is done. The app consists of 250 PHP files and approximately 75 MySQL tables. Has anyone done anyt...

It is way too late to be wrestling with this, but being the obsessive compulsive I am..... Single crontab entry for every 15 minutes beginning & ending on the hour
We have a cron job that needs to run every 15 minutes throughout business hours. The first run is at 8:00, the last run is at 17:00. Is it possible to specify this time range in a single line? */15 8-17 * * 1-5 will run 8:00 - 17:45. That's not what I want. Likewise */15 8-16 * * 1-5 will have the last run at 16:45, not 17:00 This is more of a brainteaser than a real problem. I can

[LLVMdev] python & llvm
...sonably cross-platform strategy ? Also i wanted to post to the pypy developers: there seems to be some mutual gravity here. Where I work we do heavy duty numeric processing with python (machine learning) [1]. Maybe I will get a chance to work on/with/steal from, pypy. (The guys here are absolutely obsessed with speed.) I just found out that the python AST branch has been merged, so i'll be investigating this aswell. bye for now, Simon. [1] https://lineal.developer.nicta.com.au/lineal -- Simon Burton, B.Sc. [LLVMdev] LLVM IR is a compiler IR
...generate code for a platform that LLVM still does not know about, my only solution is to patch LLVM because the value setted through one of its APIs is ignored on key places, as LLVM assumes that everybody wants full interoperability with C. This is the kind of logic that tells me that LLVM is a C-obsessed project: any requirement that falls outside the needs of a C compiler writer is seen as superfluous even if it does not conflict with the rest of LLVM.

vorbis' configure
It seems that the configure script in CVS does not check the CFLAGS environment variable at all. Indeed, on line 121 of configure.in, CFLAGS is explicitly set to be blank. Is this done for a reason? I see that several sets of CFLAGS are passed into the Makefiles by configure based upon specific architecture/compiler combinations -- perhaps this is the reason...? I ask because users may wish to

OK, one more time on the PDC thing
My apologies, I'm terribly sorry to belabor these PDC issues to the point where everyone is undoubtedly tired of hearing about them, but I have become absolutely obsessed with trying to solve this PDC problem. Here is what is happening now. I'm trying to connect to the Samba server which is set up as the PDC (domain PLAB) from windows client "venus". Windows prompts me to enter a username and password. I enter the username and password for root...

Asterisk 1.0.9 long term stability <--thread hijack, why not reboot?
Disclaimer: Not a troll I'm curious as to this obsession with uptime is. All of the posts of this type are along the lines of "After X days, Y thing does not work but if I reload or reboot, it's OK" - so why not cron a reboot? Is it considered bad form or something like that? I reboot every night whether it is needed or not, not afraid to admit it, and everything works fine for

metadata
I think I'm going to regret asking this, but is there any more information on Ogg metadata other than what's at <http://wiki.xiph.org/Metadata>? Is there a more appropriate list for discussing it? I'm sending this to the vorbis list because ogg-dev seems to see very little traffic, and none of the others seems to be very relevant (this happens to be the one I'm subscribed

vorbis_analysis() dependencies?
Per Monty's suggestions from a while ago, I have [finally] gotten around to playing with different schemes for parallel oggenc. Monty's main suggestion was to have a single thread loop over reading samples and calling vorbis_analysis_blockout(), and then queueing up the resulting blocks to be processed through vorbis_analysis() in other threads (in parallel). To verify that this works, I

ownership/perms on DC file objects
Back in late March I asked what ownership and permissions Dovecot's own directories and files should have; I have an obsessive nature, and wanted to get things right :(..
