OT O'Reilly Asterisk TFOT
I went to the Linux Solutions exhibition in Paris yesterday, visited the
well stocked O'Reilly stand and saw a nice pile of Asterisk TFOT, 6
hours later there was only one left. It must say something, also it was
the English version.

O'Reilly - Using Samba (3rd edition)
As the second edition is a bit long in the tooth, I wrote to O'Reilly, and
they said the 3rd edition of "Using Samba" is scheduled for release in
November.

Asterisk basic how-to on O'Reilly's site
This was published on O'Reilly's site last week, but they didn't tell
me until now. :) The article is pretty minimal, because I had a
limited number of words to work with, so many features are not
implemented. However, it's a good start.

TDM400 hangup issue in China
Afternoon,
I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I have an
asterisk PBX deployed in China using a TDM400P based card. The incoming
calls are being picked up correctly, but are not being hung up. I
suspect that this might be an issue with the signaling that has been
selected.
I...

Network IP address
Hello all,
Quick question.
Our network has NO connection to the internet (the way we want it) but we
are using 66.2.x.x as our IP addresses. However, I am now reading that
192.168.x.x is the preferred naming convention. If I leave as 66.2.x.x will
I have problems with Samba?
Because I dont connect to th...

new book
Just thought I would mention that there is a new O'Reilly book out,
"Developing Bioinformatics Computer Skills", which is ok, pretty
superficial about some things but at least it lets you know what is
happening and where.
R gets a few pages in there, 394-396, mostly nice press and accurate

"Using Samba" adopted as official Samba book
The Samba docs just improved by a huge leap.
O'Reilly have released "Using Samba" under an open content
license. They have sent me the full sources for the book and I will be
working to get it formatted to be useful as a good online resource as
soon as I can.
Within the Samba Team we have decide...

Samba license info link yields 404 error.
Hi Samba team,
I'm one of the webmasters for oreilly.com, O'Reilly & Associates' Web site.
A customer sent us email stating that they got the following broken URL

Would you please update the URL? It should point people to

Patenting a mathematical formula is NOT creating a machine nor is it unique. For example. 2+2=4... apples + apples^2= given outcome. I want to patent this. It's stupid to patent something like that. The same is true for formula algorithms. Algorithms occur in nature. Thus should not be patented. Now, Volley G Mathison inv...

Samba 3.0 and LDAP
I was looking through my o'reilly book and according to it all of the ldap
inputs that would be in smb.conf are not supposed to be there in samba 3.0.
How do you specify which ldap server to use and whatnot?

Dundi Examples
Can someone show me how to set up DUNDi, I will be using it to connect
14 asterisk servers internally. I don't want to use it on the external
world. If anyone has any examples of connecting 2 or 3 (if their is a
difference) machines in a DUNDi co-operation that would be helpful.

Default permissions for creating a new user
I know this is a Linux 101 question, however I am unable to
locate the answer in my O'Reilly Linux book: how to set the
default for permissions when creating a new user. The default
for the GUI in my newly installed Centos 5.5 is 700. I usually
use 774.
And when root creates a new directory, i...

OT: Forum or mailing list for Bash-related questions?
Hi,
The subject says it all. After a few years of writing scripts the quick
and dirty way, I've decided to take the plunge and learn Bash correctly,
using the O'Reilly Bash Cookbook. I'm currently looking for the right
place to ask questions, but curiously enough, Google searches about
"bash forum" result in nothing conc...

RedHat 9 Samba and SWAT
Hi all,
I've googled and discovered that others have had this problem, but no
one has given sufficient details about how they solved it, so I'm still
stuck.
As preface, I'm a high school teacher, and although I teach
programming, my sysadmin experience is minimal, so please be explicit
in your replies...
