Freeze when swithing vt
...d nvidia 1.0-9631 binary driver. I have noticed that switching to console with ctrl-alt-f1 and then back to x with ctrl-alt-f7 locks up the system with a black screen more or less (sometimes the lockup is complete, sometimes the cursor moves and it is possible to switch back to console), A user on nvnews forums suggest that disabling sync to vblank is a valid workaround. Is this a compiz or a driver issue? Cheers.

Looking for motherboard/chipset experience, again
What about the Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard? It has 7 SATA ports, supports ECC memory, socket AM2, generally looks very attractive for my home storage server. Except that it, and the nvidia nForce 570-SLI it''s built on, don''t seem to be on the HCL. I''m hoping that''s just "yet", not reported yet. Anybody run Solaris on it? Or at least on any

...ds are going to find themselves between a rock and a hard place since nVidia is not yet formally supporting this version. The only real option, which imposes no 3D graphics and no compositing (eg. CompizFusion) is to use the beta version (173.08) of the nVidia driver referenced here: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=111460 Note that I could not get the patched versions of the current release driver for 2.6.25 kernels to work as is noted in other posts on NVNews. I have not yet figured out how to boot into 'init 5' successfully, as one needs to pass the '-ignoreABI&...

[HOW-TO]Nvidia latest graphic drivers for ubuntu users
...for nvidia based cards, which are not the ones you get by default with the install. Its highly recommended to upgrade to 180.11 using the following pain-free method : Code: sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-180 Since feb 25th nvidia has released an updated version 180.35 [LINK] (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=128939/) How to install this drivers: It is very easy and you can do it just following this steps. (I recommended to uninstall any previous version) 1) Download the driver (for example in your desktop) 2) Enter in a real terminal mode: CONTROL + ALT + F1 (don...

Forwarded USB brokenness
Hi, I''ve set up a domU with video card access per the instructions at <http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=68703>; video is working quite nicely. However, I''m having some trouble getting the USB keyboard and mouse to work. I have a motherboard with onboard USB 2.0, and a USB 1.1 PCI card. The motherboard USB uses several PCI addresses. If I forward...

Syncing to vblank for interlaced video modes
...ready to be output in correct order to the display. The current proprietary drivers from nVidia synchronise buffer updates to the retrace after each single half frame is drawn, which for the most part is not satisfactory. The symptoms of this are explained very well in this post -> http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=95836 If I understand, the nouveau drivers currently use the standard vga crtc registers to detect video retrace, and this results in the same behaviour. According to specifications I have seen from AMD, at least one Radeon series has registers which tell which fie...

2.6.30.1 dom0 Xen patches
I''ve been trying for several days to get a xen dom0 booting as described on Boris Derzhavets blog. I have been able to boot Jeremy Fitzhardinge''s pv_ops kernel under xen, but my X server wouldn''t start so I''ve been trying to get Andrew Lyon''s rebased opensuse patches to work. I have asked for help in the freenode ##xen channel but they

Re: Over 4GB RAM issue
...h posted a month or so back that is supposed to fix the issue. But games down to a crawl on 64-bit systems with 4GB ram or greater, and the patch simply doesn't work otherwise. Not even on a 32bit system with 2GB ram. Also some are suggesting that this may be a nvidia driver bug here: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=127984 Although this may be an unrelated issue.

qemu-kvm segfaults on starting guests
I have a Centos 5.5 on an AMD 64 system (Athlon II x2 250). I caught up on updates today, including -- kernel 2.6.18-194.17.1.el5 -- glibc 2.5-49.el5_5.5.i686 I have several guests that were working before the update, but now none of them will boot. I have a screenshot and logs for that: http://dragon.student.utwente.nl/pics/screenshots/screenshot-hal-driver.png http://dragon.student.utwente.nl/pics/screenshots/screenshot-hal-driver-log I can't recreate this at will, it just happens. I have found http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=1630681 which is a similar error, but since I do not have BSD the solution does not apply to me (if it does, tell me how in linux ;)) Finally, I'll list some versions wine: 1.0-rc2 (but rc1 did the same) nvidia-drivers: 169.12 xorg-server: 1.4.0.90-r3 dutchy a...

Nvidia security vulnerability (CVE-2012-0946)
Not strictly a CentOS issue, but users of the Nvidia drivers should be aware of this. See their announcement[1] for details. Users of the the manufacturer's driver, or the ELRepo kmod-nvidia driver[2] should update ASAP to the new version. ...+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/540632 Nouveau fails to drive the LVDS screen of an Acer Extensa 5635G laptop. This seems to be due to the laptop having a corrupt EDID.
