Omnibus main effects in summary.lme?
Hello, I've been running some HLMs using the lme function quite happily; it does what I want and I'm pretty sure I understand it. The issue is that I'm currently trying to estimate a model with a 14-level "nusiance" factor as an independent variable...which makes the output quite ugly. All I'm really interested in is the question of whether these factor as a whole (and its interactions with other factors) are significant. The summary.aov function provides this sort of aggregation for lm objects, b...

Probably OT: Has anyone else seen SeaMonkey 'pop' without warning?
I sent a bug report to Mozilla about this, but I was hoping someone here might have an insight on this. I use SeaMonkey as my default browser (32-bit even though I'm running x86_64 CentOS 5.1), version 1.1.7. Shortyl after installing 1.1.7 on my 5.0 (and even since 5.1), I noticed that every so often, seemingly at random, although it appears most frequently when I click on something that

How do I test against a simple null that two regressions coefficients are equal?
Hi there, I run two regressions: y = a1 + b1 * x + e1 y = a2 + b2 * z + e2 I want to test against the null hypothesis: b1 = b2. How do I design the test? I think I can add two equations together and divide both sides by 2: y = 0.5*(a1+a2) + 0.5*b1 * x + 0.5*b2 * z + e3, where e3 = 0.5*(e1 + e2). or just y = a3 + 0.5*b1 * x + 0.5*b2 * z + e3 If I run this new regression, I can test against
