Possible hint for "Clocksource tsc unstable" problem
Hello, I made an interesting observation related to the "Clocksource tsc unstable (delta = -2999660320319 ns)" problem. In the log of ntpd I found: Oct 5 03:46:35 greenville-dom0 ntpd[4020]: kernel time sync status change 6001 Oct 5 04:03:41 greenville-dom0 ntpd[4020]: kernel time sync status change 2001 Oct 5 05:29:03 greenville-dom0 ntpd[4020]: kernel time sync status change 6001 Oct 5 05:46:09 greenville-dom0 ntpd[4020]: ke...

Systemd
So I've built my first CentOS 7 host and am learning all the new ways of doing things. I setup and enabled ntpd but after a reboot I get: $ systemctl status ntpd ntpd.service - Network Time Service Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/ntpd.service; enabled) Active: inactive (dead) After issuing: $ systemctl start ntpd Ntpd runs just fine. But why isn't it loading at boot time?

Why the command 'service ntpd stop' cause the time reversed?
A shell script is deployed to synchronize time, the script is invoked hourly by crontab, and its content is as follows: #!/bin/bash service ntpd stop ntpdate 192.168.0.191 #it's a valid ntpd server in LAN service ntpd start chkconfig ntpd on Inspected the Linux log(Centos6.4 /var/log/messages), found the following fragment: Jan 7 14:00:01 host1 ntpd[32101]: ntpd exiting on signal 15 Jan 7 13:59:59 host1 ntpd[44764]: ntpd 4.2.4p8 at...

C6: ntpd time reset +277092510.162464 s
Hi, I'm in the middle of migrating our oracle servers to RHEL and C6; while testing ntpd I'm seeing time resets. I see in sysconfig/ntpd the option g is set which means huge offset is one time ignored. But my understanding of ntpd is, it slows or accelerated kernel clock but does not make huge jumps... Is this really expected behaviour? The file step-tickers is empty, ntp.con...

NTP Service Running on Local Host does not Sync System Time
Hi List I have ntp running as a service on a PC, with the expectation that it would keep time in synch to my ntp server. However, while I can manually update the time using "ntpdate -u ...", I find that if I manually force the wrong time, the ntpd service does not automatically re-synch the system time with the ntp server: - Current time: [admin at lol ~]# date Wed Jan 27 10:54:21 AST 2016 - Force wrong time: [admin at lol ~]# date -s 09:29 Wed Jan 27 09:29:00 AST...

ntp and samba43 on FreeBSD-103.
...hat these were caused by time divergence they were not so strange, but to begin with they were most mysterious. In any case, we have resolved most of these issues. In dealing with this I ran across https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Time_Synchronisation which contains this instruction: Set up the ntpd.conf File on a DC . . . ntpsigndsocket /usr/local/samba/var/lib/ntp_signd/ Now, on the FreeBSD host I see this instead: # sockstat | grep ntp root ntpd 6229 3 dgram -> /var/run/logpriv root ntpd 6229 20 udp6 *:123 *:* root ntpd 6229 21 udp4...

Stale NTP in FreeBSD
Apologies if this is the wrong mailing list but no list in particular seems appropriate. I was disappointed to discover in the 9.2-RC's that ntpd was still 4.2.4p8. I notice that that same (legacy) ntpd version is in stable/10 and, presumably, likely to end up in the new 10.0 release; so I thought I should speak up in the hope that it is not yet too late for the current ntpd stable release to be included. 2006-12-28 ntpd 4.2.4 released...

Time just moved backwards error even with ntpd
