Sharing in another network
...and the box trying to access it is NT4.0 with SP5.
It looks something like this
------- --------- ------
|Linux|-----------|Gateway|----------| NT |
------- --------- ------
192.168.32.72 192.168.32.128 192.168.31.81
(linBox) 192.168.31.128 (ntBox)
(gate)
The gateway routes the packets between the two (runs Linux RedHat
(kernel 2.2.1)).
On linBox I've more than 1 network interface, but I've denied access on
smb.conf to all but 192.168.32. and 192.168.31. .
hosts allow = 192.168.31., 192.168.32.

We've deleted and re-added the user object for the machine several times.

problem with smbclient access to NT4.0 WS share
...chine. I can
also access a shared directory on the Debian machine fine from
the NT machine (but not the Win95 but that doesn't bother me
unless it's a diagnostic clue). I have been able to change
passwords on the NT machine from the Debian box using
smbpasswd and "smbclient -L //ntbox" works fine showing the
share there. However, "smbclient //ntbox/share/" prompts for a
password and everything seems fine but if I give the correct
password I get "SMBtconX failed. ERRDOS - ERRnosuchname

server not visible anymore
Hello everyone,
I used samba 1.9.x before and everything was fine. The samba
server lived in some local network and I could see it from my NTbox
as well as from Win95/98 clients.
I upgraded to version 2.0.3 and now my server is gone though I use
the same smb.conf file which is pretty basic. I can connect to it
using the "\\server\share" convention and can also see it when I do
a "search computer". When the computer...

rpcclient Shutdown
I have compile rpcclient using the last CVS, and have some questions
regarding it.
I would like to use rpcclient with perl to do a remote shutdown to NT
Workstations on lan.
>From my linux box ( Running Samba 2.0.6 ) I can successfully connect to
the remote NT4.0 Wks, but
the list of commands that I have access is only

problem: HP-UX 10.20 + encrypted passwords
...th the DEC servers but the HP boxes fail after 2-3 accesses.
After some debugging it seems getpwnam() returns NULL for a perfectly
good
call after a few calls. So I put in endpwent() here and there, OK, this
helps,. now I can do 27 accesses before it fails (example of "access":
'rsh NTBOX dir x:")
Ok, what's the problem? errno says 9, i.e. EBADF. but there are still
file descriptors available (i.e. those have not been allocated and not
freed), so there are 2 possibilities:
1) HP's getpwnam is broken
2) samba code messes up getpwnam's static data somehow....

Halfway there...
WinNT & Samba/Linux (on RedHat 5.2) are now quite happy to chat provided
that the Samba Server isn't expected to allow the NTBox to write anything.
That is: r works, rw doesn't.
I followed the DIAGNOSIS txt file for SAMBA, and everything is fine except
for TEST 10. I tried setting the security level to SERVER and pointing it
at the NT box with no joy. The thing is, I can't even SEE the server on the
network, altho...

get_domain_user_groups: You should fix it, NT doesn't like that
...ll:/bin/false
The group `users' is in /etc/group:
users::100:
which is groupmap'd to Domain Users:
Domain Users (S-1-5-21-938323123-1062378614-4074567964-513) -> users
Which makes the entry in the log file seem nonsensical.
After this error occurs in the log (/var/log/samba/log.ntbox), I try
logging in as usera and I received the following error from the GUI:
"The local policy of this system does not permit you to log on
interactively."
If I restart Samba the usera can log in again fine.
Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks,
Erik.

we have successfully installed the printer driver on the samba server and
have been able to install the printer driver locally on our ntbox.

[Bridge] Wireless bridge - revisited
Several weeks ago (July 1st), you may remember me asking about using a
Linksys WET11 (ethernet to wireless bridge) with bridge-utils.
Mark Mathews was kind enough to respond and described a situation he
called "b/mcast echo". From his reply:
"
Because of the games that have to be played to build WLAN station bridge
devices, some have a problem with what I call 'b/mcast

[Bridge] bridge-utils + Linksys WET11
So, I'm setting up my first bridge, and I'm running into an interesting
issue.
I have a 4 port NIC (formerly 4 seperate /29 and /28 LANs) and an
onboard NIC (to my ISP).
I've setup the bridge using the script included at the bottom of this
email (modified from Gentoo for Aurora).
When the WET11 (the WET11 is a simple ethernet to wireless bridge) is
unplugged, the bridge works
