MGE NMC and NutShutdownModule (and other stuff)
Hi all, some time ago I bought at discount price a NMC for managing a few computers using the programmable outlets features available on my MGE Evolution, unuseful otherwise (ATM). However, expecially for my server machine, I don't like very much the NSM client provided by MGE/Eaton and I'd rather use only NUT from my distribution. So, looking at the netxml-ups driver, I started adding some code into the mge-xml subdriver, to power off the system whenever the NMC tells it's time to go down. Although the code is still a stub and incomple...

...t; I managed to get twice connected at the same time from the same > machine to a single UPS using different hostnames, so it's > definitely not an IP based check (at least here with 66102 / EC). Never mind. The alarm messages are not bound to a specific outlet, but are sent to all NSM clients that are connected. Which means that a single connected driver can handle the alarm messages for all outlets. Basically, the NSM subscription allows us to reduce the polling interval to 1 minute or so, without risking high latency for alarms (since they will be pushed from the NMC w...

[nut-commits] svn commit r2102 - trunk/drivers
...Author: adkorte-guest > Date: Wed Nov 11 10:44:46 2009 > New Revision: 2102 > > Log: > Properties changed > > Modified: [...] > trunk/drivers/netxml-ups.c Oops, this accidentally slipped in as well. This update changed the behavior of the netxml-ups driver to allow a NSM-client only mode. In this mode, an outlet needs to be specified in 'ups.conf' to which the driver will subscribe. It will then only listen to the alarms it receives and does *not* poll for data. Fortunately, this work-in-progress compiles cleanly, so I will postpone the final upda...

Samba, quotas and disk capacity?

There's also a free product called CIFS/9000 Client which gives you similar functionality to the smbfs stuff for linux; ie ability to mount/umount Windows shares to Unix mountpoints. If you are on subscription services with HP, this v...

Small question on the snmp-ups module
Hi, Our research group is planning to buy an MGE Pulsar Evolution 3000 to protect our operational computers against power failures with an SNMP network management card. We would like to connect the UPS only through its network card (and not via USB or serial cable to another computer) and install the NUT software (client+server) on each machine to catch the shutdown SNMP signal from the UPS

use of "@" character in variable name
Importing data with a header row using read.delim, one variable should be named @5HTT but it is automatically renamed to X.5HTT, presumably because the "@" is either unacceptable or misunderstood. I've tried to find out what the rules are on variable names but have been unsuccessful. I'll bet someone here can tell me where to look. Maybe it's hidden away in here

Samba/LDAP share issue -- user with invalid SID
...1", running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. LDAP is not installed. 3) Users can successfully authenticate to sl1 against LDAP when connecting via SSH. If their user directory exists (they have logged in via ssh) they can connect to their home directory through samba by connecting to smb://sl1.biochem.lgrt.nsm (a non-routable internal network), so I know samba is successfully connecting to the LDAP server. Traffic between the file server and the LDAP server is encrypted, as confirmed with tcpdump. 4) When attempting to access a group share, the connection is refused, and the following shows up in the s...
