[PATCH] configure.ac: Add mandoc as valid formatter
Hi,
On systems that have mandoc installed but are missing an nroff binary,
the configure script will fall back to pre-formatted manual pages
despite the fact that mandoc could be used.
The proposed patch adds mandoc as a valid formatter to configure.ac. As
mandoc supports the -mdoc flag, it can simply be added to the list of
nroff-like binaries.

PATCH: nroff detection wrong, by default uses mantype=cat
Hi,
Just tested the latest snapshot on RHL72 via building RPM's of it.
Nroff detection was wrong, and if no --with-mantype was specified, the
type would always revert to cat. This one-byter fixes it.

man pages won't work
Hi,
I am sorry about this stupid question but after compilation of openssh-2.3.0p1 the manpages were installed but a man ssh gives only unstructured response without underlined lines etc. A nroff -man sshd.8 gives the same output but the contents of the file shows a nroff-format.
Any ideas?
My system is a HP-UX 11.000 with the pam-patch.
regards
Stephan

Nroff -> .Rd -> R-ex; html
I am using R 1.2.3 on Linux Mandrake 7.2.
I have a ton of S Nroff help files that end
with source code typified by the following:
Last S statement in an example, e.g. X <- y
..KW models
..KW regression
..WR
When using R RMD Sd2Rd to create the .Rd file I get
X <- y
\keyword{models}

R help files -> S-Plus; par('mgp')
Thanks to Brian Ripley I have been using R utilities for
some time for converting S-Plus UNIX nroff help files
to .Rd to .html files. .Rd files seem to be the most
natural format for help files and this format is probably easier
to maintain than nroff, so I would like to start
using .Rd files as my master documentation format
if anyone has a utility for going from .Rd to nroff.
I guess I could...

Query: Sd2Rd and nroff macros in S docs
Documentation for S3 functions is apparently written in troff markup
with macro tags like
.BG .FN .TL .DN .CS ...
Inspection of S3 documentation source files gives a pretty clear idea
of what these mean, semantically (and Sd2Rd is a perl script which
converts this markup into the Rd format, providing further semantic
information along the way).
My query is: Can anyone point to troff

translate nroff .d or .sgml files to .rd files
Dear list,
I have some help file for S-Plus 2000 in .d and .sgml format. Is there a
way to translate these files to .Rd files to use in an R package?
Thanks Fredrik Lundgren

A few more Solaris 7 bugs in 1.2.3pre2
...e you'll get errors about __builtin_va_alist, which
Solaris cc provides but GNU does not. I put /usr/include as -idirafter
instead of -I, and it worked for me. Perhaps check for -idirafter as a
compiler option, and use it if available?
- The man pages don't format properly ("what nroff" gives roff: n1.c 2.13).
All the text runs together into one long paragraph. I am unfamiliar with
writing man and nroff, and my attempts to fix things just made it worse.

Haven't seen answer yet (was newbie man on Solaris question)
...n 80 column
wrapped text. The Solaris 8 is pretty generic, with all the
current patches. OpenSSH version is 2.9p1.
The man pages stored in /usr/local/man/manx are formatted
in something that looks different from the OEM Solaris
man pages, even though the top of the file includes the
commend "nroff".

Converting R help files to S-Plus 6 sgml,html
I have help files in several formats. Up until now I have converted nroff files to S-Plus 6 sgml and html files using
Splus doc_to_S ... (creates .sgml file)
Splus HINSTALL ... (creates .sgm and .html files)
I maintain master help files in R .Rd files, and for some of my functions converting from .Rd to .sgm using R CMD Rdconv --type=Ssgm ... produces better .sgm fi...

1.2.3pre2 works great on Solaris 2.7 except man
Right out of the box (after I made Damien's LDFLAGS fix in configure) using
gcc-2.95.2. The only problem I have now is the man pages. I still can't
read them using Solaris nroff, and when I tried to build with
--with-catman=cat, I got the following during a make install:
/rtr/bin/install -c -m 644 ssh.[01].out /usr/local/man/cat1/ssh.1
Try `/rtr/bin/install --help' for more information.

Please keep the nroff versions and the old help() interface around, I
suspect things like Emacs S-mode would break without it (or will it
break anyway?). There is a groff for Win32 on

[PATCH/cygwin] Fix cygwin specific Makefile and a bug in the ssh-host-config script
Hi,
could somebody be so kind to check in the follwoing patch? It fixes
two problems:
- contrib/cygwin/Makefile:
Installs new docs and stops trying to install RFC.nroff.
- contrib/cygwin/ssh-host-config:
Fixes a condition which tries to find out if ssh or sshd processes are
still running. The old version unfortunately stumbles over user names
which contain the substring "ssh" :}
Thanks in advance,
Corinna

Man pages ...
Hi all.
I can't read the openssh man pages on Solaris. I tried all the nroff
macro packages I could find, with more or less garbled success.
Could someone point me to versions suitable for Solaris, or a man2sgml
converter? Or to a good online tutorial covering this issue
(SysV vs. BSD?) that would allow me to translate the nroff dialects
involved? In the latter case, I...

Man pages
I've noticed that the man pages provided in the tarball do not work on
Solaris - the output is not formatted as expected. On a linux box it is
possible to view the man pages using nroff -mdoc ./sshd.8, where
prepended file is /usr/lib/groff/tmac/tmac.doc. There does not appear
to be an equivelent macro file on Solaris 2.6. Does anybody know how I
can get the man pages to display properly on Solaris. Thanks
