the state of wine under Mac Os X
Lately I've tried running some games under Snow Leopard, 10.6.4 to be precise, most of them being pre-Direct X 8 games, mainly for nostalgia reason. Most of these games had no big problems running under Ubuntu 10.10 32bit, and being used to run Wine under Mac Os for some legacy work-related application, I thought It would have been pretty straightforward to run such games under Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, most of them show problems a...

Playing Warcraft II: Battle.net Edition
Hi all, I have a simple question (I think). I unearthed a copy of Warcraft II: Battle.net edition, and got a surge of nostalgia so I installed it. I have an Intel iMac running Snow Leopard. I was able to install the hybrid disc using Wine Bottler. (I mounted the Windows side of the disc via Terminal.) Now, when I hit "Play Warcraft II" it says that it can't find a file in the disc, even though it's in the...

Partial Keyboard Functionality In Old PC Game (Heavy Gear 2)
...le, modifying the control setup is no problem. However, once the actual game launches only a small subset of the keyboard is responsive (arrow keys, ESC, TAB, and a few others). If anyone could help me troubleshoot this problem it would be much appreciated. It is an old retired game, but there is a nostalgia-steeped crowd of devotees who are currently unable to play it on their newer Windows machines, and as is often the case, I'm hoping Linux can be made the solution. Thanks!

Where did UJS go? UJS vs. RJS
I have not been able to access the UJS site, http://www.ujs4rails.com/ for two days. Does that mean there are problems or that it has been incorporated into Rails core? In general, what do you think of using UJS instead of RJS? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google

Changing `security@freebsd.org' alias
Hello Folks, The official email address for this list is `freebsd-security@freebsd.org'. Due to convention, there is an email alias for this list: security@freebsd.org, just as there is for hackers@ & freebsd-hackers@, arch@ & freebsd-arch@, and so on. The security@freebsd.org alias has been the source of occassional problems. Several times in the past, postings have been made to

Negating two identical characters with regular expressions
Hello all, Let's say I have a character string "Race-ethnicity-----coding information" I want to extract all text before the multiple dashes, including the word "ethnicity." I wrote a handy function to extract the first matched text: grepcut <- function(pattern,x){ start.and.length <- regexpr(pattern,x) substring(x,start.and.length,start.and.length

[RELEASE] Lguest for 2.6.21
Hi all, Lguest is a simple hypervisor which runs Linux under Linux, without needing VT hardware. Two people asked if I had a version of lguest which worked on other-than-bleeding-edge-mm kernels, so I did a backport of the latest version to 2.6.21. http://lguest.ozlabs.org/lguest-2.6.21-254.patch.gz See Documentation/lguest/lguest.txt for how to run, drivers/lguest/README for the draft code

Migration from pop3 to imapd
Dear list, I am planing to set up dovecot-imapd on my production-mail server which currently only runs pop3 via qpopper on debian-sarge. It would be best, if I could only use imapd and use the existing pop3- server (qpopper) as it is. Is this possible? Can the user both use pop3 (qpopper) and imapd (dovecot) in parallel then? Where does dovecot-imapd store its mails? Does it store its mail in

ipfw question
Dear All. I want to use 'not' for 2 addresses (for both) in ipfw2 rule. The only way that looks like what I need is # ipfw add count from IP1 to not IP2,IP3 But does this rule indeed makes what I want? Does it count all packets destined to addresses other then IP2 AND IP3?! No other syntax works. For example more logically correct not IP2 AND not IP3 or even not { IP2 or IP3 } are

[PATCH 1/2] lguest: handle dodgy/non-existent TSC. Host code.
Lguest currently requires a TSC, which breaks older machines and Matt Mackall who boots the host with "notsc". In addition, there is no good solution to changing TSC speeds (informing all the guests about the TSC impending change before it happens would be a great deal of code and have issues with disobedient guests). This patch makes the host determine if the TSC is both constant and

Design changes are done in Fedora
...e if you still feel at home in that world: http://www.squeak.org/ Not only does technology change, so does our perception of what ?good technology? looks like. I suspect most of those using Squeak are using it for the same reason that I continue to pour a lot of time into Apple ][ emulators: nostalgia, not utility. >>>> Why even bother with ksh or Bash extensions, for that matter? interactions between OPIE-ftpd and RH5.2
...ls to pam, an upgraded pam shouldn't be causing this, especially given the fact that opie-login and opie-su work just fine... Is there some other obvious breaking-point that I'm missing here? A [mod: Readers, please reply to Adam. Adam, please summarize in a week or so. -- REW] -- Nostalgia is a product of dissatisfaction and rage. It's a settling of grievances between the present and the past. The more powerful the nostalgia, the closer you come to violence. War is the form nostalgia takes when men are hard-pressed to say something good about their country....

VPN through BSD for Win2k, totally baffled
Scenario: FreeBSD box running IPFW acting as a gateway to private network. The private network is made up of entirely routeable IP addresses. External users running Win2k and XP on DSL connections with dynamic IPs. Goal: To have the FreeBSD gateway securely authenticate and encrypt the traffic between the outside users and the internal network. I've spent the last 3 days running up and
