unable to assign static IPv6
I'm having a problem permanently assigning a static IPv6 address to my CentOS v5.5 box. I have IPv6 enabled and the link local address is automatically brought up. I can manually ifconfig the address but when I configure it in ifcfg-eth0 and restart the network init script the IPv6 address is not assigned. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Lexical Scope: How does it work?
Let me start by saying that I am a fan of lexical scoping as a way of increasing confidence in your execution models. I am hoping to move from the now thoroughly debunked "wackyscope" model that used to plague many programming languages over to proper lexical scoping in my puppet configs. I''m just having trouble finding documentation of how this works for puppet. I understand

10th anniversary of tinc 1.0
Hello everyone, Today is exactly 10 years ago that tinc 1.0 was released. I would have hoped to celebrate this by releasing 1.0.22 and 1.1pre8 today, but this will instead happen in one week. Tinc 1.1 is close to becoming stable, and I hope to release 1.1.0 before the end of the year. The main features of tinc 1.1 are the improved security over tinc 1.0, and a much nicer interface that makes it

zfs streams
Can I send a zfs send stream (ZFS pool version 22 ; ZFS filesystem version 4) to a zfs receive stream on Solaris 10 (ZFS pool version 15 ; ZFS filesystem version 4)? -- Dick Hoogendijk -- PGP/GnuPG key: 01D2433D + http://nagual.nl/ | SunOS 10u7 5/09 | OpenSolaris 2010.03 b131 + All that''s really worth doing is what we do for others (Lewis Carrol)

Patch for ssh-keygen to allow conversion of public key to openssh format
Hi, I needed to convert a public RSA key to autorized_keys format and found ssh-keygen lacking this feature. I made the option -Q publicfile to allow an conversion like ssh-keygen -Q pubrsa.pem -y The patch is produced using unified diff and made on latest release. If you like it and can make a patch for the man-page also! Regards, /Lars -------------- next part -------------- diff -u

Oracle and ZFS
Hi All ; One of our customer is suffered from FS being corrupted after an unattanded shutdonw due to power problem. They want to switch to ZFS. >From what I read on, ZFS will most probably not be corrupted from the same event. But I am not sure how will Oracle be affected from a sudden power outage when placed over ZFS ? Any comments ? PS: I am aware of UPS''s and

Slow Resilvering Performance
I know this topic has been discussed many times... but what the hell makes zpool resilvering so slow? I''m running OpenSolaris 2009.06. I have had a large number of problematic disks due to a bad production batch, leading me to resilver quite a few times, progressively replacing each disk as it dies (and now preemptively removing disks.) My complaint is that resilvering ends up

File cloning
Hello, I''ve recently joined this list, primarily because of a thread I found from late April ("Is file cloning anywhere on ZFS roadmap") asking about file-level cloning in ZFS. Based on that thread I understand that it''s not currently possible to ''clone'' files instead of ''copying'' them, but the thread didn''t answer the

Homegrown Hybrid Storage
Hi, I''m looking to build a virtualized web hosting server environment accessing files on a hybrid storage SAN. I was looking at using the Sun X-Fire x4540 with the following configuration: - 6 RAID-Z vdevs with one hot spare each (all 500GB 7200RPM SATA drives) - 2 Intel X-25 32GB SSD''s as a mirrored ZIL - 4 Intel X-25 64GB SSD''s as the L2ARC. -

checksum errors after online''ing device
Dear all As we wanted to patch one of our iSCSI Solaris servers we had to offline the ZFS submirrors on the clients connected to that server. The devices connected to the second server stayed online so the pools on the clients were still available but in degraded mode. When the server came back up we onlined the devices on the clients an the resilver completed pretty quickly as the

SAS or SATA HBA with write cache
Anyone know of a SATA and/or SAS HBA with battery backed write cache? Seems like using a full-blown RAID controller and exporting each individual drive back to ZFS as a single LUN is a waste of power and $$$. Looking for any thoughts or ideas. Thanks. -Matt -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

problem installing libvirt from source
I'm trying to compile and install libvirt-0.9.0 on Ubuntu v10.04. The make and install went fine and I don't see any errors but there isn't a libvirt directory created in /usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages. I specified configure --with-vmware -with-esx (and later --with-python), then make, then sudo make install. >From config.log: prefix = /usr/local exec_prefix = ${prefix}

Converting a public PEM-file to OpenSSH public file format
Hi, I have made a new option i ssh-keygen, to read a public key in PEM-format and write a public key in openSSH-format. This file can be used to make the authorized_keys file. I needed this function because I made an openssh-client where the private key in a smartcard and therefore not available for ssh-keygen to make the public file.. I can make a patch for this if anyone is interested!

compressed root pool at installation time with flash archive predeployment script
I was trying to think of a way to set compression=on at the beginning of a jumpstart. The only idea I''ve come up with is to do so with a flash archive predeployment script. Has anyone else tried this approach? Thanks, Chad -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

are these errors dangerous
Hi everyone, I''ve been running a zfs fileserver for about a month now (on snv_91) and it''s all working really well. I''m scrubbing once a week and nothing has come up as a problem yet. I''m a little worried as I''ve just noticed these messages in /var/adm/message and I don''t know if they''re bad or just informational: Aug 2 14:46:06

exclude problem
I have looked on the mailing lists and through rsync documentation but those still haven't solved my problem. I may be calling rsync incorrectly but the problem I have is that the exclude file seems to be ignored. My final goal is to replicate an entire host, excluding some files that contain specific IP, hostname configuration things. I'm trying to start small by mirroring a

Backing up ZFS snapshots
I have an OpenSolaris snv_105 server at home that holds my photos, docs, music, etc, in a zfs pool. I backup my laptops with rsync to the OpenSolaris server. All of my important data is in one place, on the OpenSolaris server. I want to backup this data. I want to protect against losing my data, and I would also like to recover previous versions of files when I make mistakes. * I do not have a
