Malloc debug kills asterisk?
Hi- In trying to track down a possible memory leak in asterisk, I've discovered that the "show memory allocations" command crashes asterisk (causes it to stop handling calls, although it doesn't seg fault). The related "show memory summary" works however. Before I post this to the bugs list, can someone else please confirm this problem? You need to enable malloc

License quandry in the Fedora sub-space of all R packages
There was mention of this [r-sig-fedora at r-project.org] mailing list on one of the other R lists overnight. I thought the list needed a bit of posting, as I could not recall seeing content recently on it. I cross post to the Red Hat hosted list as well, it raises issues relevant there as well I have been packaging in support of many of the financial packages at CRAN and in R-Forge [

Open Source in an Economic Downturn: Asterisk stories needed
I'm giving a talk at SCALE 2009 (Southern CAlifornia Linux Expo) on Sunday in Los Angeles, and the topic of my talk is "Open Source in an Economic Downturn". I've got lots of talking points for this talk, but it would be interesting to hear some short anecdotes about how you in the Asterisk community are thriving, or at least surviving, by virtue of the benefits of

I wrote a GUI front-end for syslinux windows version
Hi all, I developed a GUI front-end for syslinux on Windows for easy making of live usb. It's released under GNU GPL. http://people.linux.org.tw/~pcman/SysLinuxSetup.zip Putting this with syslinux.exe and syslinux.com can make the installation safer. The program only lists removable device to the users with their icons. If there isn't, the program will prompt the user to insert usb disk.

Problems with x2go
I have installed x2goserver on a Centos8 server. Yesterday, after the installation I was able to connect by means of x2go. Today I get the following error ( /var/log/messages) /usr/bin/x2gostartagent[2677]: no free display number available, cannot start new session. Has anyone had the same problem? Thanks. Bye Stefano

JGR font rendering on Windows
JGR users on Windows may be interested that Sun has released a preview of its latest Java development kit and runtime engine at http://www.java.net/download/jdk6/binaries/ This removes the main problem I have had with JGR and other Java programs on Windows: poor font rendering. On Windows XP with an LCD display, the improvement is striking, as this uses Windows native font smoothing

Test Active Directory sync module: lpep
Hi All I have just published a module that synchronises users and groups from Active Directory into a Puppet manifest, which can then be rolled out to subscribed agents/workstations. The module maintains generated uids and gids in an SQLite database. It has only been tested on Puppet Enterprise 2.6.1 and RHEL 6.3 so far, at my end. The module is called lpep and you can view it at

hblm program: porting from Splus to R
I am replying to the email below my signature; it is nominally about dmp files, but apparently specific to problems with Bill DuMouchel's hblm program. I have been using this program on Splus for years, and ran into some of the same problems Jack did in trying to get it into R. I talked with Bill about it, and he didn't know that there would be any problems; he assumed that R was

Steve Jobs about theora
I guess you've all read it already, but here it goes: "All video codecs are covered by patents. A patent pool is being assembled to go after Theora and other ?open source? codecs now. Unfortunately, just because something is open source, it doesn?t mean or guarantee that it doesn?t infringe on others patents. An open standard is different from being royalty free or open source.
