Kernel parameter "pci=nommconf" "nophet"
Hi list
I am installing a couple IBM System x3650. IBM Support advises to put
"pci=nommconf" and "nophet" at installation prompt and later in
grub.conf.
But what those parameters do? I didn't found any technical
documentation. Thanks for sharing background information about those
parameters.
cheers

Intel VT-d Support
Hello all,
please tell me, how can I be sure that
my Xen installation is built with Intel VT-d support?
Something like
xm info | grep -i KEY-REGULAR-EXPRESSION
xm dmesg | grep -i KEY-REGULAR-EXPRESSION
What line I should look for?
And if it''s really built with it,
how can I be sure, that Xen has successfully
initialized VT-d hardware?
I have read [1] and the lists archives

I've tried both CentOS 5.8 and 5.7, thinking it was a kernel
incompatibility, but the problem happened with both versions. I have tried
different hard drives, different memory, even swapped the entire machine,
and the problem exists everywhere. I have tried adding "pci=nommconf" to
the kernel line, as that was reported as being necessary back with 5.2 on
these machines, but that made no difference (and shouldn't be necessary
now, anyway, as I believe the issue has either been fixed or
worked-around).
I am stuck, and can't figure out where to even suspect the...

Intel G33 Compatibility for Centos Server
Been running rock solid servers on Centos 3 and 4 for
years but equipment is starting to die so it is time.
I was thinking along the lines of an Intel Q6600 on an
Asus P5K-VM mobo with the new G33 chipset utilizing
SATA. Is anyone having success with this board or any
of the G33 chipsets where I am not going to run into
all kinds of install problems?

I need help with CentOS installation on a Core 2 Duo Laptop
Hi,
I've tried to install CentOS 5.2 on Core 2 Duo T5750 2.0Ghz laptop
but what happens is every thing hangs up when anconda system installer
starts. So I tried PCLinuxOS in it's text-based installer it detects
the CPU core 1 and when it try to detected the other one system gets
stuck. I tried these same two distro's on another PC that have a AMD

new install of 5.1 with KVM-over-IP - can't install with GUI - need assistance
...Why make my life difficult?
I have to 'cheat' by calling the datacenter to plug a monitor for the first minute of the install and then plug back the KVM cable.
Isn't this stupid? of course it is!
I am looking for a solution such as a parameter that I can pass to the boot sequence (vga=nommconf or something like that) so that it won't do the probing for the VGA and just let me go about my business.
Mind you that this is a problem both with DELL PowerEdge 1950iii with DRAC5 remote consule as well as with just plain PCs that use ATEN KVM 9116.
Once the probe understand that we don'...

Adding memdisk or similar when booting linux

But now I need to add a driver disk to my install enviroment, and when thinking about it, the nice method would be having syslinux create a memdisk which linux could see when starting install, and load its drivers from there. The reason i need a memdisk image (or sim...

1333/8GB Intel motherboard for C5.1
...th the 1333MHZ cpus such as the 8400/9450 and accept 8GB of RAM? The closest we've found so far is the DG31PR which is alright but it has the limitation of 4GB of RAM and an unsupported Realtek NIC. The DQ35JO is also ok, but requires quite a bit of 'jostling' to get to work such as pci=nommconf and other tweaks, we need something that will work out of box, anyone found anything recently?
Thanks in advance if anyone has any hints.

Asus P5B-VM DO board?
Anyone had any success with or hints for a system based on the Asus

I had to put pci=nommconf in order to get the installer (CentOS 4.5)
and the installed system to boot, but I can't get the graphics to work.
Following the instructions at the Intel website
http://www.intellinuxgraphics.org/install.html ends with a compilation error:

Xen 3.2.1, Intel DQ35JO tips
...ng the Intel DQ35JO
motherboard to play nice with Xen:
1. The dom0 kernel won''t boot with CONFIG_PCI_MMCONFIG enabled.
If you get a hang during boot after seeing this message:
ACPI: PCI Root Bridge [PCI0] (0000:00)
...then MMCONFIG is your problem.
Some kernels seem to support a pci=nommconfig option, but my Gentoo
2.6.21 Xen kernel didn''t. The solution was to build the kernel without
MMCONFIG. A temporary workaround is to boot with acpi=off, but you
won''t get SMP support if you turn off ACPI.
(Confirmed with BIOS 0882 and 0559)
