Xen without APIC
Hi, I am trying to boot Xen on top of a simulator. I am having problems with the APIC module in my simulator, not related to Xen. So, I want to boot Xen without APIC support. Is there a way to disable APIC support in Xen? I am fine even Xen is restricted to uni-processor environment. Thanks, Bhaskar _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list

unable to boot centos 5 on dell optiplex 320
...on using pci=nomsi. That seems to be the only way. After the install grub loads but thats about as far as it gets. It looks like a BIOS bug to me, but I just don't know. I left it sit for a few minutes and it just had the echoed boot params on the screen. I've tried booting with noapic nolapic apm=off acpi=off and noprobe but can't get any farther than this. Anyone know if this thing will boot? Thanks -- Flambeau Inc. Technology Center - Baraboo, WI Email : tblader at flambeau.com Keyserver: http://pgp.mit.edu KeyID: 0x00E9EC2C

Slow clock on CentOS 4.4 in a VMware VM
I'm running a CentOS 4.4 VM on a Windows XP host with VMware Server, and have the problem that my clock runs too slow (it happens in VMware Workstation as well). It loses between 30 and 45 seconds every minute! This is a known problem and can be fixed by adding "nosmp noapic nolapic" to the boot command according to VMware tech note ID 1420. However, despite adding these options as well as some others (acpi=off pci=noacpi clock=pit) and turning off a bunch of daemons (cpuspeed, irqbalance, etc.) I still have a slow clock. Here are the daemons that are still enab...

APIC error on CPU0: 60(60)
I have a lot of this errors in my Centos stock 4.3 version in an Intel D945gnt motherboard with a Pentium D (dual core) If I disable apic in the grub.conf (apic=off) will I get a performance hit? Im running Asterisk on that machine. 40 is Received Illegal Vector 20 is Send Illegal Vector 60 means you're getting both errors at the same time. Basically it means that the APIC bus messages are

...x-62) boxes with 4 gig of Corsair dual channel ram running kernel 2.6.9-42.0.10.EL (smp). The sixth box is the same except for video card and ram. It is using 8gig of GSkill dual channel ram and has a very cheap ATI video card in it. This box will segfault on boot unless I use noapic acpi=off and nolapic. Even with these boot params, the box is not 100% stable. I have seen udev segfault right when booting and also when copying 15 meg files from /tmp to /usr will lock things up sometimes. Yum and Perl have gotten corrupted as well at different times. I have 5 fans in the box to vent heat and the B...

Follow-up on Fast clock under VMWare
...reads pit. (I put in the line clocksource=pit) in the grub boot up line. Divider=10 in the bootup line causes the boot up process to hang and a reset has to be performed; removing it and the CentOS boots properly. I'm currently using 2.6.18-53.1.13.el5, with boot up options are "noapic nolapic quiet clocksource=pit" (took out divider=10). CentOS clock is going at around 2 seconds per every real second.

HVM questions: Max disk size?, Version?, APIC ..etc?
...o for the newest tested changeset in the 3.0 branch? I also found that my whole OS (not just the guest) were very unstable until I set went for the following parameters: xen0 kernel: acpi = default, apic = default (acpi or apic = off would cause bad crashes) guest kernel: acpi = off , noapic , nolapic ... am I on the right track with this? I got to this with trial and error based on some random google hits. .. ooh and a BIOS upgrade helped tremendously too.
