Hello Everybody, I was searching for an answer myself for quite some time without success, so I hope somebody can clarify...I use rsync to sync webcontent from one server to another. Apache-details: * Apache runs as nobody:nogroup. * Source-Server-Rights htdocs: The rsync-user gains access via o+rx * Destination-Server-Rights htdocs: The rsync-user is in the group 'nogroup', gains access via owner rsync-user and g+rwx, htdocs-group is 'nogroup' I use the following command: /usr/bin/rsync -topglrcze ssh --d...

Found MS-Word 97 & Samba bug : diagnostic found!
...(DELL PowerEdge 1650 with RAID mirror, etc)): Some users have, SOMETIMES, a READ ONLY set on files, where no one except them use this files. I'm in oplocks=false because of MS-Excel 97 issues, and, no need of fast performances at the moment (<10 users). I put a /home/public with nobody.nogroup rights. Each users is in "nogroup" group too. force user=nobody on this share set force create mask=0664 on this share And, here what I have!!! : First file has NO PROBLEM, second one HAS "READ ONLY" ERROR, (but not if the file is REOPEN again): -rw-rw-r-- 1 nobody nogro...

1.0.13: mail_extra_groups alternative syntax?
"Warning: mail_extra_groups setting was often used insecurely so it is now deprecated, use mail_access_groups or mail_privileged_group instead" I use the following: mail_extra_groups = mail nogroup Because I have the real and virtual accounts. What's the correct way to replace the above line? It seems that mail_privileged_group only accepts one group, but I need two. Any suggestion? Thank you! -- Linux 2.6.24: Arr Matey! Owner of samba share nobody nogroup
I am running Ubuntu 12.04 using winbind to connect to an Windows 2008 AD server. I use autofs to map the home directories, the only problem is the owner is reading nobody nogroup. Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? This worked in 10.10 Here are my config files. Let me know if you want to look at anything else. smb.conf ------- [global] security = ads realm = domain.com password server = pdc.domain.com bdc.domain.com workgroup = DOMAIN idmap config * : ba...

permissions nobody:nogroup using winbind
I have successfully configured winbind in 12.04 on a VM, but when I tried to install it on a physical box using the exact same process my permissions are screwed up. On my home directory which is mounted using autofs from an nfs4 file server the permissions are showing nobody:nogroup I've tried everything I could, I even rsynced the etc directory from my working VM to my non-working physical machine and ran meld on the two and saw no apparent differences. The only difference I can see would be hardware. Any ideas?

is sssd *faster* than samba4's builtin winbind?
Using samba 4.0.9 as an AD DC (no other domain servers). Since my UIDs and GIDs have changed, I was doing cleanup: find /srv/svn/ -xdev '(' -nouser -o -nogroup ')' -ls I noticed this was very slow -- iostat reported only about 2tps and 50kB/s to my disks. So I timed it with nsswitch.conf users & groups set to "files" vs. "files winbind": # with "files" root at gumbo:~# time find /srv/svn/ -xdev \...

That would be a *really* bad idea. See the l0phtcrack source for details :-). Seriously, though. The password hashes used on NT are very poor. They don't use salt and people are now

configure: added --with-group
I just committed the --with-group option for configure. One thing is not quite what I like, but I have no idea how to script this in autoconf. Currently both RUN_AS_USER and RUN_AS_GROUP have the defaults "nobody" and "nogroup" respectively. I think this really should be changed to the following: - if neither --with-user, nor --with-group are specified, we apply the defaults "nobody" and "nogroup" (or whatever are sane defaults) - if both --with-user and --with-group are specified, use the valu...

login to ms access db very slow on samba 3.x
...share containing only the database file (which is about 410MB in size), with no success. after comparing the old 2.x setup with the new one, we noticed that on 2.x (where everything ran smooth) guest access was enabled and everybody was accessing the DB as user "nobody" of group "nogroup", so we tried the same setup on our 3.x server, forcing user "nobody" and group "nogroup" on our new 3.x server, hoping that would solve the problem. nada. we have tried changing the tcp send/receive buffer size after reading through tcpdump logs, but that was proba...
