mount toption: nodev
Hi, I am trying to secure my CentOS file systems by introducing "nodev" to devies defined in /etc/fstab. I learned that "nodev" prevents users from mounting unauthorized devices. However, I can still mount a cdrom to /tmp/cdrom with the following defined in /etc/fstab. Am I missing something? Thanks. LABEL=/tm...

Needed help to fix corrupted ext3 fs
I have been trying very hard to seek help with my very complex issue but so far none have been successful. So I would like to try this mailing list, maybe there are some experts who know what they're talking about. Please refer to my experts-exchange question, all the required information will be there. It is more practical to send you to the webpage than paste out what I've done.

amd 920824upl102 ignores the nodev option
amd from the amd-920824upl102-6.i386.rpm file distributed with RedHat Linux 4.1 does not honor the nodev option for NFS filesystems and probably other mount types, allowing any user access to the device files in /dev on a system, provided that they have root access to another linux box on the network. In addition, the default amd.conf from RH 4.1 maps /net/* to NFS mounting, which makes th...

extlinux reports "./extlinux: path /media/disk doesn't match device /dev/sda4"
Hello list, in a previous post I mentioned I had managed to make USB-Stick with 2048 byte sectors bootable. In fact I wiped out my Linux partitions bootrecord. This was with an old version of extlinux as still distributed by openSuSE. Interestingly enough the current version syslinux-3.61-pre2, spares my hard disk, but still seems to live under the impression it is the USB stick. The setup is

ext3 and df don't agree ?
I've taken my RH7.1 system, rebuild kernel (2.4.9 with ext3 patches) and followed the ext3 instructions to install. Everything seems to work OK but - df -k doesn't list the ext3 partition (my root partition). Is this a known problem ? If not, how best can I gather diagnostics to identify the source of the problem ? Thanks -- Philip Nelson (teamdba@bojnice.com)

why does automounting removable media always have options nodev, noexec, nosuid?
i'm experimenting with some basic removable media mounting exercises for an upcoming class, and i read that, while you can use gconf-editor to change some of the mount options in cases like that, there is no way to override the mount options of nodev, noexec and nosuid. for example, that claim is made here (admittedly for fedora, but it appears to be true for centos as well): http://scrolls.mafgani.net/2007/03/gnome-automount-options/ is there somewhere that one could see and verify that those options always hold fo...
