Dual Homed Samba Server Problem
...e list with all machines a cannot access a machine that's not on the same network. Also, doing nmblookup i cannot find names from the net 172.16.1.0 , but from the other network it's OK. Some questions are: 1. Do i need to set up 2 groups , one for each network? 2. Will i have 2 wins' (nmbds) running, or i can use just one ? Thanks a lot for your attention, Tacio tacio@psmi.com.br

Two nmbd processes on 2.2.6
...? On the first server (Dell 4600) I thought it might be because it has one of the new hyperthreading BIOS which makes Linux believe it has dual processors. The machine also had two NICs - one for each card? However, I tried in on my old PII 233 single processor and single NIC and sure enough two nmbds get started. Have I missed something? Are there supposed to be two running these days? I simply compiled with the usual parameters (./configure --with-smbmount --with-utmp --with-msdfs --with-automount) and have made sure only one nmbd exists on the system. Any ideas anyone? Do we need WINS Replication?
We have 2 segments of the corporate network, which are connected by a unstable(~90% uptime) 2Mbps link. This link cannot be made better. So, we are to use 2 WINS servers(both Samba 2.2.8a) - one server in one segment. However, if 2 clients register on 2 different WINS servers, they can't mount network drives of each other. I've tried to use the WINS servers as primary and secondary for

Multiple Samba's on same machine
I have tried hunting through docs/lists/Google but no joy. I am sure I saw something about running multiple Samba's on different ports but I want to use different interfaces all on port 139. So: Can I run multiple s/nmbd's on the same machine? I have nine main VLANs and somewher in the region of 30 odd worgroups (don't ask !) of which 10 are of interest. 3,500 odd PCs. I have a

Problems with wins proxy interworking (1.9.18p[23] -->1.9.17
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, I am writing to ask your help with what may be an nmbd interworking problem. The situation is as described in the samba distribution documenet BROWSING.TXT. I have LANS connected by routers to a central site. FreeBSD 2.2.2R/Samba 1.9.17 nmbds at the remote LAN act as WINS proxy's to a a Samba WINS at the central site. All is well when the WINS proxy samba and the central WINs use the same version of nmbd (1.9.17) but fails when the WINS proxy uses 1.9.18p2 or p3 nmbd (I wanted to use the kill -HUP dump of the name lists provided by...

SAMBA digest 1670
...nmbd had died and didnt >restart. Thank you for pointing this out (and posting it to samba-bugs). I'll write a script to scan the process list and count the number of running nmbd's. If below 2, it will kill the still living one and restart nmbd. One more point: the number of running nmbds seems to depend on "wins support = yes". This makes sense in terms of the need to do async dns lookups so it should (I did not investigate until yet) also depend on "dns proxy = yes". _real_ browsing problem...
...tation file BROWSING.TXT each level should have its local master browser, collecting all host announcements on its broadcast domain (level network), building a table (so far it works) and syncing its table with the domain master browser (this doesn't work). The local master browsers are usually nmbds on linux system, the domain master browser is a dedicated linux/nmbd on our computer center network (10.8.2.0/24). Do we have to use the same workgroup name on each level or really configure our routers to forward broadcast frames in order to get that stupid browsing work? -- Jens

virtual hosting and nmbd
Hi, I'm trying to make my machine to show up as two different machines on the windows clients. The way I figured it could be done is by virtual hosting. Most of this works out as it should apart from nmbd. I can not make it to listen on the other (virtual) IP address which means that virtuald never get called (by inetd) unless I use the -I option in e.g.. smbclient. This, of course, does

Since the customer didn't call again regarding these problems I had the opinion that everything is fine .... Today the customer called and mentioned that there are additional problems. a lot off nmbd
Hello, I have installed a new server with mandriva 2007 free edition, with samba 3.0.23d on it. It is good but a new nmbd appears every 5 minutes and they don't die when I stop samba. So, I compiled samba 3.0.24 and ... idem. This is not my first install, on my other servers they're only 2 nmbd. With this install, after one day, I have more than 250 daemons, it is the hell ! What

PDC for Multiple Domains from a Single Samba Box
...he posts. 1. Am I trying something that just won't work? 2. Does a PDC have to belong to the domain? ( I cannot get net -w 'newdomain' rpc join -U Administrator%passwd to work for the new domain) 3. Has anyone got a configuration like this working? 4. Do I need to be running two nmbds? 5 What about winbindd? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brian Palmer e-mail: palmer@westar.com

nmbd Problem
Hello, I am using samba 2.0.4b on Linux 2.0.36. Since I changed some of the parameters in my smb.conf I have a very strange Problem. Everytime my Samba-Box wins the browselist election process two nmbds are started and my WinXX-Clients do not get access to samba (I could see the server but not access the shares nor login to the domain). smbclient -L server from server works fine. From another Samba-Box it does not. After I just restarted samba I can see the shares from an NT box but I do not have...

...at doesn't sound very good. I'm fairly certain the using netbios aliases and includes will not work, because samba will not allow me to configure interfaces and so on from an includes file. However, I haven't tried it, so if someone has, correct me. The trick is that all the different nmbds shouldn't be aware of each other, and definitely shouldn't fight each other for control of the domain. I'm at my rope's end with the virtuald setup, so I would be happy to work with anyone who could help me through this in any way. ~!kenny Return-Path: <oio_oiuu_ww_ll@yandex.ru...
