can't find how to solve "QEMU guest agent is not connected"
I am trying to make Qemu agent work with libvirt thanks to https://github.com/NixOS/nixops/pull/922 with libvirt 4.1.0. I've been trying to make it work for quite some time but I still haven't the slightest idea of what is wrong, I keep seeing "Guest agent is not responding: QEMU guest agent is not connected" as the program I use (nixops) calls the libvirt pyth...

However, taken into account that mingw supports both POSIX.1 and win32 and most of (if not all) *nix sup...

Segfault in llc 3.8.0 building GHC
Hi all, I'm hitting a segfault in llc when trying to build GHC: http://sprunge.us/ZVGB. What is the best way to debug this? I'm able to bump to 3.8.1 if needed, but GHC tends to break when updating major versions due to IR incompatibilities. Seeking entry level BSD/*nix position in DFW area
I am a Windows admin looking to make the switch to the BSD/*nix side of the house. I am currently working nights (Sun-Thu, 10PM-6AM) but am looking for an enty level BSD/*nix position during the day. I am able to work both jobs(already have done so for over 9 months), as long as there is no night or on-call responsibility. Goal is to get feet wet and prove...

Windbind requirements and settings
I posted this to comp.protocols.smb, but I'll give it a shot here too... Background : We have an existing Win2k domain, 2 Win2k domain controllers, all working just fine. I've been using Samba 2.2.x for quite a while to provide access to specific folders on *nix machines using Domain security...So I'm reasonably familiar with how file/print sharing works. But what I'm interested in now is providing shell access to *nix machines, without having to manually create accounts on each box. Therefore, windbind.... 1st, if using windbind, and all I wan...

DOMAIN level security with smbpasswd???
I'm a bit confused on several points of the security infrastructure of Samba. First, and simplest, why (and is it necessary) do we need to keep a smbpasswd file when the Linux/Unix passwd file could be suffice? I like the idea of mapping particular users to a given UNIX account via the username map option, but I see no reason in specifying a separate password file for these same UNIX users. Secondly, and more to the point, why (again, and is it necessary) do we need this smb...

wxRuby Requirements
I''m considering using wxRuby in a project, but the installation procedure seems to be pretty complicated. Can you tell me what users would have to do to use a wxRuby application on *NIX and Windows, assuming that Ruby itself is already available? >From what I understand, Windows users would just have to download the wxRuby distro, which contains everything needed to make it work. The *NIX users would have to download a version of wxWidgets (wxGTK or wxMotif?) and then install...

How to do platform independent system calls?
...9;tool', '-input', path_to_input, '-output', path_to_output, '-other_switch', some_val ) ) I have two question about this: 1) Is there a way to implement such calls to external tools, so they become platform independent? I mean, so that these calls will work both on a *nix and a Windows system? 2) Is there a way to generate platform independent paths? So that "path/2/input.tbl" on *nix systems becomes "path\2\input.tbl" on a Windows system? Your help will be much appreciated! Kind regards!

Starcraft (not so) success
The story: I have wine-20010216 with Starcraft installed from within wine. All works well, except, sometimes, in the middle of the game (running as root to get DGA), the mouse and keyboard stop responding altogether, 30 seconds after which the game stops moving (the display freezes altogether). I cannot do anything, not even switch to another tty. My only course is to ssh into the box from

No log/mongrel.log file under win32.
To follow up this bug report: When you run mongrel_rails without the daemonize option -d on *nix, it also don''t generate log/mongrel.log file! Windows build not running on r-forge
Please forgive any mis-post, and do feel free to point me to a more appropriate list if this isn't properly R-dev. I have a package on R-forge that shows correct linux and other *nix builds, but no windows build. The log for the patched version shows the error below, which appears to be due to a lack of /src files, a problem that does not halt the *nix builds. The package contains no compiled code (src is intentionally empty). Log as follows: * installing to library 'R:/...
