Continuing problem with domain trusts
Setup:
Samba3beta3 domain (NEWDOM) with a single PDC. No winbind activated.
Uses smbpasswd for user authentication.
Windows 2K AD (OLDDOM) domain with two DCs.
I've been struggling to get a trust established one way with these two
domains. Since I have a native W2K AD domain, I have to use AD domain tools
to establish...

I have also manually created the two machine accounts admin1$ (w2k) and

In | Advanced | Network identification | properties I change the workgroup

provisioning fails
...be a bad idea either.
<br>
The wiki and most other online resources indicate the one should use the
"provision" command.
This command is no longer available in the S4RC you must use samba-tool to
accomplish the task.
sudo samba-tool domain provision --realm=new.example.com

As far as I am aware, not with your setup, If you were using ldap or
running AD, then yes, you could allocate an exact ID to each user and group.

Creating a new Samba BDC and promoting to PDC

Then urgently, setup a new AD-DC server + 1 member, move the old data to the member.
You can, if the username/password are the same, setup like this:
DOM\
NEWDOM\
Passthrougth auth will work for windows..
winbind use default domain = yes
to make it see as user:group again
I see you use Centos, im not much help with Centos, sorry. Im a Debian guy,
but with above you can setup new and keep old running as far its needed.

Gerald Carter and Richard Sharpe has an entire chapter which walks you

smbd[7287]: make_server_info_info3: pdb_init_sam failed!
In my case, check "use ldap" using authconfig. or enable it manually in /etc/nsswitch.conf
will resolve the issue.
But I don't understand why it occured in my trustrelationship,
OLDDOM (winNT) <-> NEWDOM (Linux)
I got above error when using #smbclient //<NEWDOMserver>/tmp -W OLDDOM -U <OLDDOMuser>
Since the authentication go to OLDDOM, why it pass to auth_util.c and error?
Only user who has unix account in /etc/passwd (eq to OLDDOMuser) can connect.
Others, I have to turn on ldap in nss...

Creating a new Samba BDC and promoting to PDC
...approach is going to be to set up the new server in a NAT
jail, so that I can get it working without worrying about the clients.
Then, when I am satisfied it is working, to fully expose it on the LAN.
